You only get achievements in campaign and play as either Titus or one of 2 other story characters (you don't get to choose, player 1 will always be Titus, etc.). This is 3 player coop, and there is no "progression" or anything to earn other than beating the story and achievements.
Operations is also 3 player coop, you can choose one of 6 classes to level up, each class has a main "power" specific to them to use, get better weapons and abilities, new armor pieces and colors, etc. There is no crossover between ops and campaign other than the story tie ins.
There is also a PVP mode, but I have not really played that much so will leave it to others to comment. It does have a similar but separate progression system to ops.
This is a hack and slash shooter with specific gameplay mechanics that you need to "get good" at to play on the upper difficulties. Very rewarding to play imo. Looks good, good story, action/fighting/shooting is excellent.

Pretty sure it's only free-to-play games that don't require an online subscription to play the multiplayer. Not sure if there's a way to get significantly cheaper ps plus
COD doesn't require.

Which COD? BO6 does need it for zombies and multiplayer. Not for campaign though. Warzone is f2p so don't need it for that either.
