I am thrilled for anyone who wants and gets this promo. Personally, and I am not alone, I cannot trust Frontier and other LCC if I really need to get somewhere, like a business trip. Or even a leisure trip where I have reserved and prepaid a hotel stay.
Multiple times in the last several years I have had cancelled flights. As far as what I know, they are only obligated to give you a refund of fare paid or get you on the next available flight that they alone have. In 2 of my experiences the next available was more than 24 hours away, so in each case I bought a full fare ticket on another carrier to get to my destination. I am sure others have had great experiences.
Do not get me wrong, if I have lots of leisure time I enjoy capturing a $19 fare! But to fly them consistently, even for free--not for me. For many others, once again---GO FOR IT
As another data point, I've taken about 15 flights this year on the pass. No flight cancellations. I think I've only ever connected once and it was fine. I plan on buying it again, especially at $299.
They have very few flights per day (1-2) so if anything happens to that flight then you're probably stranded for at least 24 hours or booking on another airline. You can't speak to a human, including the ones at the airport, without challenges or costs. They are extremely strict on baggage sizes. If your whole bag doesn't fit completely in their bag checker then there are fees charged. Their flight times aren't consistent (that same flight might be at a different time on different days). The GoWild availability is not always available or for a low price. They treat you just slightly better than their employees traveling using a similar program.
Also, I can't travel 1000 miles for $16 in 2 hours any other way. If it works it works, but, for many, it won't.

Quick break down to simplify things since I have the pass and use it often.
$16 per segment (if you don't live in their hub city you'll most likely have to lay over in Denver, Phoenix, SF, Orlando, ATL) so typically one ways is $32
A normal back pack is free but don't push it cause the agents make $10 if you are caught with a bag that's too big
This pass starts May 1st valid for a year
You can book domestic flights a day prior at midnight, GWP seats aren't always available ( I've been able to get 80% of the flights I wanted but I'm also very flexible with travel )
Of over 100 flights I've taken, 2 cancellations and 4 delays over 45 minutes.

That's wild but I looked it up, apparently the gate agents (which don't even work for Frontier, I guess the airport hires them) get $10 for every $100 in checked bags they process. That explains all the videos.......
worst airline ever and the only one that doesn't comply with rebooking you on other airlines or getting you a hotel when they cancel their flight. they just leave you hanging, no reimbursement whatsoever and horrible hotline. pls get out of the market, in europe this would be illegal. The owner should be stranded on an island

What is a "normal" backpack? To me backpacks come in a huge range of sizes with none of them being normal.
I've read all the comments and not sure if this is a good deal. Ignoring all the issues with Frontier, how many normal flights would it take to payoff?
I've personally never had a bad experience with Frontier other than their small seats, which is not that bad for short flights. As an active duty service member, it's always free checked bags and carry-on's for me and whoever flies with me/on the same itinerary. To each their own. If I had more time to travel, this would be an easy buy for me.

LJDerm, from what you describe, they have you flying standby, which is what I thought when I read the terms up top.
So, if they have sold out the flight to all but standby passengers, you're out of luck... Or if they have 1-2 openings and there's 5 standbys ahead of you that are waiting there, then you're out of luck as well.
Pity it's not like when Southwest, JetBlue, or some other airline has made the same type of offer, and you've got the same status as someone else in the allowed, same class booking made at the same time.

I agree completely. It is their business model, so if they are up front about it and customers can use it with the drawbacks, so be it. Again, not for me. I am so happy for others if they know what they are getting and utilize the heck out of it.

I did fly with 3 people from my city to Florida during COVID.
Talk about a weird flight. They made us sit in our seat they claim due to balancing of the plane. Haha.
