Amazon Auto, is launching with a partnership between Amazon and Hyundai dealers in 48 U.S. cities.
The Amazon Autos shopping category on Amazon.com ("Amazon Autos") is available to all Amazon customers.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Begin a purchase on any car at Amazon Autos.
2. Finish checkout and submit your order.
3. Schedule a pickup appointment and sign required documents from the dealer.
4. At your pickup appointment, complete your car purchase at the dealer and drive your new car off the dealership lot.
5. Within two weeks after you pick up the vehicle from the dealership, you will receive two (2) emails from Amazon, each containing one (1) Amazon.com gift card. Your $2,300 credit will be split between those two gift cards.zon.com/b?node=10677469011

I used to stay away from them as well, and they did have a crap reputation. My best friend and his family all ended up getting Kia or Hyundai vehicles circa 2010. I got my first EV from Kia, and loved it.
Sure, there may be some issues here and there, but nothing on a grand scale like it was 1999.
I don't see how dealerships, if involved, would allow them to truly upend the industry, but rather co-opt this program to become basically another online sales lead source with ultimately worse deals.
When I got my kia in 2018, costco auto program only knocked $800 off the price. I think most dealers do $500, unless there is a promotion going on

If you have a number in your head that you feel good about, you let them know that you are buying TODAY if they make your number. Bring your checkbook for the deposit. Have pre-approved financing notice on your person. They need to know that you are serious. Get the Sales Manager over to do the negotiation. Give them an hour to make that number, and if they can't, leave. Make sure they have your number.
If they don't close the deal, they'll call back in a couple days and try to feel you out. Keep firm. One of those dealerships you visit over the month is going to find a way to make that number if it's profitable to do so.
You can also email out a bunch of dealerships in the area. Be willing to drive. I usually do 4 hours. "Send me your best price for this car...I want to buy it on <end of month or quarter>. I will only accept your one best offer." Somebody will send over a great number. Others will try to play games and cry that you didn't let them haggle. Their loss.
This means you see the out the door price when checking out. It's unlikely to be the best deal you can get through other ways, but it's at least a more transparent transaction.

My mother in law had an older Kia 4 door that was no better than a Geo Metro. Thin doors that would rattle and shake as you drove. And if you wanted to get up to speed, the whole car shook violently.
My wife bought a Kia Carnaval van earlier this year and it was a completely different experience. It's on par, or better, than the Honda and Toyota options. And for less money. It feels solid as hell while driving. 40k miles so far without one single issue. We plan on getting at least 250k at least out of it.
