For the love of God dont buy a Kia/Hyundai at any price. Epic engine and paint failures. Stay away at all costs.
This is not your father's Oldsmobile... Err.. Hyundai.

I used to stay away from them as well, and they did have a crap reputation. My best friend and his family all ended up getting Kia or Hyundai vehicles circa 2010. I got my first EV from Kia, and loved it.

Sure, there may be some issues here and there, but nothing on a grand scale like it was 1999.

Can I return it in 30 days if I don't like it?
Just drop it off at the UPS store and show them the code. Wink

How is this any different than all the various other sales leads like TrueCar, Costco Auto Program, etc.?

I don't see how dealerships, if involved, would allow them to truly upend the industry, but rather co-opt this program to become basically another online sales lead source with ultimately worse deals.
I think once dealers agree the have no choice but to honor it.

When I got my kia in 2018, costco auto program only knocked $800 off the price. I think most dealers do $500, unless there is a promotion going on

Sure they do. But you have to press them hard on the spot or you need to catch them needing to make a number. If you deal with a sales person you are losing the game. The sales person can't haggle. The Sales Manager can. The sales person's job is just to wear you down and push paper.

If you have a number in your head that you feel good about, you let them know that you are buying TODAY if they make your number. Bring your checkbook for the deposit. Have pre-approved financing notice on your person. They need to know that you are serious. Get the Sales Manager over to do the negotiation. Give them an hour to make that number, and if they can't, leave. Make sure they have your number.

If they don't close the deal, they'll call back in a couple days and try to feel you out. Keep firm. One of those dealerships you visit over the month is going to find a way to make that number if it's profitable to do so.

You can also email out a bunch of dealerships in the area. Be willing to drive. I usually do 4 hours. "Send me your best price for this car...I want to buy it on <end of month or quarter>. I will only accept your one best offer." Somebody will send over a great number. Others will try to play games and cry that you didn't let them haggle. Their loss.
Checkbook?!

Good luck. They don't really do that anymore. I bought a new car for my wife last year and we spent HOURS. Walked out and came back next day. We negotiated, don't get me wrong, but not a "few grand".
Bought a new CR-V for my wife back in May. Paid a few hundred over invoice for it, thousands under sticker. Dealers will negotiate. I had to go to 3 different Honda dealers before finding the one that would deal.

One of the benefits of this is dealer fees are shown up front and are easily comparable between dealers. It's too bad that the dealers near me all have fees of at least $1200. That's unfortunately about the norm for all dealers in my area though and not just Hyundai.

This means you see the out the door price when checking out. It's unlikely to be the best deal you can get through other ways, but it's at least a more transparent transaction.

According to Consumer Reports, Hyundai is middle of the pack for reliability and ahead of all "American" brands. Your statement is accurate as long as you say the same thing about basically every car manufacturer other than Subaru, Lexus/Toyota, and maybe Honda.

Concur with Kia being much better today than yesterday.

My mother in law had an older Kia 4 door that was no better than a Geo Metro. Thin doors that would rattle and shake as you drove. And if you wanted to get up to speed, the whole car shook violently.

My wife bought a Kia Carnaval van earlier this year and it was a completely different experience. It's on par, or better, than the Honda and Toyota options. And for less money. It feels solid as hell while driving. 40k miles so far without one single issue. We plan on getting at least 250k at least out of it.

bought an ioniq 5 through costco auto program. Got $1,000 off of sticker and 0.99% financing. No haggling (dealership wanted to tack on $10k market adjustment but Costco removed that immediately)
