It is a 'hydration' aid meant to be added to water so you (in theory) can maintain or restore hydration beyond what pure H2O would normally allow.

Did the packets confuse you into thinking there was a pint of liquid was somehow stored in the tiny little envelope?

If you care about your health, do yourself a favor and don't drink this crap on a regular basis. No wonder it's $10 for 72 packets.

Maltodextrin is worse, at least in my experience. It spikes blood glucose more than sugar. A trivial amount makes me feel like I'm starving to death 10 minutes later and I'm not even diabetic. If it is from a natural source they can legally hide it under "natural flavors".
