Oh and p.s. I found the quality on this specific model has decreased since the company switched owners.

When you have this and the Patagonia nano air in hand, the Patagonia was noticeably better quality.

What year did the owner switch? I remember when Arc'teryx jackets were made in Canada, and they switched to China. I claimed warranty on two jackets because a panel delaminated. They issued me gift cards to buy newer models.

Thanks for sharing this. There's a lack of Arc'Teryx deals on Slickdeals, so this is great to see

China or not, I haven't had problems with the quality of Arc'Teryx stuff to date. Additionally, the customer service and how much they stand behind their product is enough for me to pay the premium...currently.

Not a good company anymore. Their warranty is undefined, meaning they say lifetime but they do not define what that means. I bought 2 jackets from them. After about 5 years one started delaminating and they said that is normal but offered a 50% off. A few years later, the other one delaminated and they said normal wear and tear and offered a 10% off. If I am paying top dollar for outerwear, I am investing in the brand's warranty. Will not buy from them again. If they are not offering a true lifetime, than just define it as a set number of years.

Where to get a patagonia nano for $150 that isn't the XXL size?
Regularly comes down to that price in end of season sales.

Did Arcteryx stop making jackets without hood ? Proton doesn't seem to have no hood option and looks like Atom is going the same path

How warm this is as a jacket outside of a fleece mid layer and a synthetic base layer, in Northern Illinois (around 10F during the day).

I'm in Northern Illinois and have an older version of this jacket. I regularly go running in the winter with an under armor base layer, a running T-shirt and this. Im sweating by the end and it's incredibly light for the warmth you get. I don't know if it would be ideal for just walking around in those temps or maybe even hiking unless rigorous. 10 degrees is also lower than I can for sure speak to. It keeps me warm at 20-32 degrees for jogging/running no problem.

It's also pretty slim fitting so I'm not sure how well a fleece underneath would work if it's a bulky fleece.

i thought the same thing, patagonia nano air is often regarded as the best mid level synthetic jacket among hikers and mountaineers

Not sure if this will help, but I have the old version of this jacket. I really enjoy it, but Arc'teryx does a wonderful job making this jacket look bulkier than it actually is in the product pics. This is a light jacket with only a very thin layer of insulation. 45-65 degrees would be the temp range (45 degrees would also need to be in the sun), and serves more as a hiking jacket than something to just stand around in.

Spyder did this to me and the "gift card" amount was 200 LESS than the cost of buying a new one

Never buying Spyder again.
I was hoping for Arc'teryx but now it sounds like they're going downhill too.

This is my favorite jacket I've ever purchased, and I've purchased a lot of outdoor clothing. It's my go-to for the shoulder seasons, or a temperate climate winter. It's not a heavily technical jacket and others beat it for single purpose technical uses (rain jackets, more insulated jackets, highly vented jackets, etc.), but for an everyday comfortable walk around the city jacket, it crushes every Patagonia or other jacket I've owned. It fits just right on me in my size, too, which adds to that effect. It isn't boxy, but isn't too form fitting.

Only buy synthetic insulated outerwear if needed for damp environment. It's heavier, less warm, and less durable than down.
What should I do for kid rain jacket?

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank OceanTwelve

quality went down big time. It's overpriced and relying on brand name at this point.

I'd shell out for Patagonia instead.

Owned at least 10 arcteryx items over the years. You can definitely tell the quality has declined.
