The Serious Sam FPS games are my favorite series of all time. I've played them all, some multiple times. Playing the Grand Cathedral map in SS Se the 1st time was absolutely awesome.

At one time I ran 3 SS fragmatch servers. One in Kansas City, one in London & one in Germany. It was a sin that Gamespy shut down and pretty much killed all SS Servers.

Funny side note: I was ranked #1 in the world in SS SE Fragmatch. Woke up one morning and noticed that I was no longer #1 but had fallen to ~400 or so. I emailed the ranking service and asked them what happened. They said that I was demoted because they thought I was a Bot since ... nobody could possibly play SS as much as I did.

I played them on the original xbox, entertaining Duke Nukem knockoff.

Funny you should mention that. I could not play DN. I would get motion sickness while playing or even watching my son play it.

That's why I played SS so much. It has the option for 1st or 3rd person view. In 3rd person view, I did not get sick at all.

Good mindless fun. At least the first two games were. I assume the newer ones are the same, just on new engines and stories as all game series are now days.

Gamespy. Oh my gosh memories! Yes, among all my friends back in high school this was our favorite co-op game along with GTA2 cops and robbers mod.

I have the same issue. Love when FPS games have an option for third person perspective.

I'll disagree that the Serious Sam games are a Duke Nukem knockoff. Serious Sam is the closest I've played to a pure action FPS and can have waaaay more onscreen enemies than Duke Nukem. If anyone has played Smash TV (a twin stick Midway arcade shooter from 1990 that was ported to SNES and Genesis), Serious Sam is the 3D equivalent. Think hordes of enemies coming at you relentlessly. This video "the hardest moment in Serious Sam" gives you an idea of what to expect (there is no commentary or influencer BS here, just pure gameplay): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyJuIriTkhw

In contrast, although Duke Nukem markets itself as a nonstop action shooter, there's actually a lot of exploration, puzzle solving, and "where am I supposed to go next?" involved (not all of which is fun).

The common points are they are both FPS, similar design main character, and action. I've only played played the first 2 games. Anyone looking for more cartoony graphics with more variety of locations (first game is all Egypt), go for Serious Sam 2.

I can't believe that you asked this. Croteams' games are the very best FPS shooters. I am currently playing SS3 VR on my Q2 headset. It is unbelievably good.

Croteam defined the true FPS genre with the SS series. I've progressed through all (including SS4) and am now enjoying the immersive experience (unbelievable) of SS3 VR. What a bargain!
