Amazon [amazon.com]: Coupon takes $100 off the regular sale price of $399 ($389 lowest seen) for a delivered price of $299.92 + tax.

This is a real savings of $100 for as long as the coupon lasts.

Just add RAM and SSD to get a complete functioning system for a total cost of around the same as for just the barebones box by itself.

Note this is the current model with 2xHDMI, 2xUSB4 and 4xUSB3 ports, not the earlier one with fewer.

"MINISFORUM DeskMini UM790 Pro Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS Barebones Version Without RAM and SSD Personal Computer, AMD Radeon 780M Graphics, 2xHDMI(4K) 2xUSB4(DP|8K) Outputs"

Finally a good mini pc deal on a 7940HS system.

Labeled as Frequently returned item with many reviewers saying it died within minutes-months

Bought this for my brother last year at a higher price. Very good build, solid machine. Still works great, very happy.

Sounds like a great deal, but man I've seen nightmare stories with minisforum mini pcs dying within a few months or year. Unfortunate because those specs are great, but there's probably a reason it's this cheap…

Any ram recommendations? Any ram manufacturers to stay away from?

My Minisforum 7735HS system is on almost 24/7 for a year and a half and it's a daily driver, no issues whatsoever. Just saying.......

Dunno, but given the overwhelming good reviews, I ordered 1 to check it out (been waiting months).

There has been speculation (incl by me) that with the 8945HS coming up (it's essentially the same processor but very slightly more efficient), deals would start to pop on these 7940HS's. That could be the reason for this promo.

32 GB 5600 RAM sticks are $70 at Amazon [amazon.com] (and B&H) [bhphotovideo.com], CL 46-45, 100+ reviews with 4.8 score. Not bad but a deal on RAM in the next week or two would be welcome.

Already too many NVMEs here so I'll stick one of those in when it arrives, then install LMDE [linuxmint.com]. Then torture it, of course lol.

If you're going to consider this as a daily driver, I would recommend beelink over minisforum. Minisfourm reputation is not as good as beelink IMO. I'm in the camp of getting a performance or 1L minipc and finally settled over a refurb thinkstation p3 ultra from ebay for 900.

I have an original launch batch UM790 (990Pro,64GB G.Skill 5600),also a UM780(980Pro,32GB G.Skill 5600). Both had issues with hardware acceleration, UM780 had those fixed with newer drivers, while newer bios/drivers broke the UM790 for me. Spotify and certain websites just make the UM790 shut off with no warning(temperatures are under control), for me it can stay on about two weeks and it will suddenly restart unprovoked, and actually doing work with it is always a risk to lose everything i was doing.

Also the fan on my UM790 started making noise and died after a few months. Fan is non serviceable too. However the UM780 which uses the same fan, is running strong. I don't think the fan blade was meant to be pointed down, even though the UM790 has superior cooling to the UM780. Both have strengths and weaknesses, neither are perfect.

Note - unless they fixed these issues with the newer revisions, i would not recommend the UM790 at all, no matter how cheap it is
