I have one of these, and you do NOT need a subscription to set the temp and time with the app...you need it to use the recipes, but I've never once used a recipe off Anova's site to cook anything.

Subscription coming. I also received a notice my existing one they are discontinuing app setting. While you can manually set the time and temp it is not easy an intuitive. So for the original sale of set in the app, they took that away when it wasnt profitble enough for them. Now they are moving to a SaaS model and well people dont like that for a simple appliance. Its a failure waiting to happen.
