I have something very similar; on an 'in spec' door they work really well. On a wiggly door, too much gap, odd lock latch type (common in newer & older & non-US hotels), etc....they don't work or barely work.

Still, I bring it with me when traveling for the 50% of the time it does work.

*Note: it isn't going to magically stop someone from kicking in a door but will give you an extra 10-15 seconds to prepare before the door finally caves in. Also (assuming the door is 'in spec) prevents someone with a key from getting in regardless if they unlock the knob or not.

My GF read about this and wanted one. Bought it a couple months ago for a road trip - different hotel almost every night. This is a PITA to put on but it seems to be solid protection.
