I recently and without doing enough research purchased a Fire TV, and definitely regret it. Amazon is pretty big on shoving ads front and center on the loading page of your TV.
It might not impact usability, but it certainly harshes my mellow.
Your work around is that you can purchase a Roku or whatever and set the TV to start to that port.
Basically keep in mind that FireTVs are basically Ad Supported.

Note: I'm not completely sure but there's a chance this will be $319.99 for everyone tonight at 10PM PT. If you don't have Plus/Total, check again at that time.

Seems to be available to everyone now.

100% the reason I would hesitate to buy this TV. FireTV OS is the worst in my opinion. I know people say there are workarounds for minimizing ads, but even after that I just don't like the layout or design of its GUI.

It sucks, really, because aside from that, the specs on this look good for a larger budget TV.

Can you just never connect this to the Internet? If not, that's insane. Why would you want to in the first place?

It's $300 get a TV cover for it. If it breaks in a year just replace it. Only $300

I have one I use as a monitor that has never been connected to WiFi. It functions just fine if you don't want to use apps on it.

Well, I was more referring to its ability to handle reflection and angles of view

I have just got a 55" TCL that is a Fire TV. I don't care for the Fire OS either. I'm just using it as a dumb TV and ignoring the FireOS. I use my own stick and works great.

I did not connect the TV to wifi and did not setup the FireOS. Without wifi connection the builtin FireOS can never do updates and won't bother me for those either and I don't run risk of their FW updates to the FireOS causing problems with the TV. I just plugged in my Google stick and my Roku stick and I'll use those instead. This way I can stick to my prefer streaming OS and not worry about updates for the TV or its possible issues. It seems the smart interfaces built into TVs are often sub-par vs separate sticks / boxes too. I learned my lesson with my last SonyTV, the built in Google OS was slow and had more problems than my Google stick.

Google TV is also really slow, full of ads. Youtube and other apps show much longer ads on Google TV. Never buying such OS again.
