I understand some may not like Apple stuff; that's fine, this isn't for you.

Decent deal I think on the previous gen mini now that the M4s are out. For nearly the price of the base M4, you get upgraded ram and storage with an M2 pro chip. If you don't need thunderbolt 5, this might be better too since still has a couple USB A ports.

how is this a deal? m4 + 512 GB model is more powerful than this. If it was ~400 then it could be better cost wise

You could be right. I think the M2 pro has more GPU cores, but I hear you. Maybe it's not a deal. I thought it was worth saving the $80 and I like still having USB A ports for now.

$80 is no more significant to have 2 gen older model for people. M4 being so good with power and efficiency base model is good enough for most i think.

There may be limited workflows where M2 Pro is "better" but this is probably just narrow pro audio apps that only use performance cores, not efficiency cores. M4 only has 4 performance cores while M2 Pro has 8. Users of these apps will know if their DAW needs P cores and whether double of the older gen is worth it. There's also the issue of slighter faster memory bandwidth on the M2 Pro, but someone should first give the base M4 a try at $499 (also at MicroCenter) before jumping on the old gen.

Looking at CPU benchmarks.. looks like M4 is faster than M2 Pro in this case.
