Is there a Toyota of e-bikes?
Rad Bikes. Most models are under $2000. 2 year warranty and very reliable motors and batteries. Just look it up.

Around $15,000 is the federal poverty level?
There was a news article about 5 years ago reporting that if your house hold income is below $120,000 annually in the Silicone Valley, you are living in poverty.

There are a LOT of misconceptions about food stamps - for one thing they vary a lot by state. Budgeting doesn't really come into the picture. The MAXIMUM amount of food stamps is $292/month in CA for a single person with no dependents. Everyone does not get $292. You get a % of it based on your income. If you had no income, you'd get the max. As your income goes up to the max ($1,625 max for a single person no dependents and no 'special' issue), your rate goes down. I know people who get $10/month for food stamps and they are low income. People's idea of 'low income" does not mean you get paid less than you would like to be paid. There are federal and state standards. If you live with your parents, the household situation also changes things. The primary house is ok, but all income of the household is used, not just the one person applying. A snip from this page https://dpss.lacounty.gov/en/food...ncome.html>Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD)>An ABAWD is a person who is applying for, or receiving, CalFresh benefits and is between the ages of 18 and 52, is able to work, and does not have dependent children. An ABAWD customer is limited to receiving three months of CalFresh benefits within a 36-month period, unless they:
  1. Are exempt from the ABAWD Time Limit;
  2. Satisfy the CalFresh work requirement;
  3. Qualify for an additional three consecutive month period of eligibility;
  4. Receive a discretionary exemption; or
  5. Live in a county or area with a waiver of the ABAWD Time Limit.
And there is lots more of the requirements besides that.
I'm an ABAWD and still was approved for calfresh. Have been getting food stamps for over a year. When I interviewed, none of those requirements were mentioned or asked

Brah you are in CA where min wage for fastfood workers is $20 or about 42k yearly for someone with no previous work experience .
Not even sure how one can qualify for the 2k free money because making 30k in CA is a performance with the high starting hourly mandated wages

https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Fast-...ge-FAQ.htm
Or all the people who get paid under the table, pay cash and don't have bank accounts. Which in my experience is like 30% of the population in an average grocery store Wink.

CA is one of the weirdest places in the States, and I know, I've spent a farkton of time there.

Not really, no. If someone doesn't have transportation to get to a job, supplying them with transportation might help them "stand on their own two feet". It's not like they're handing out Xboxes here.

And aside, the goal here is (probably) to get people to ride E-bikes instead of driving. It doesn't make sense to give them to people who can already afford them, so...?

But again, this is a rounding error compared to corporate subsidies.
yeah, not having a ebike is definitely what is stopping poor people from having a job. Subsidizing public transport, investing in education, supporting businesses to provide more work opportunities? Nah, 2k ebike is the answer. After all - robbing working people of their money to give away ebikes to someone else is indeed the same as letting the corporate creating hundreds of thouthands of work spaces to keep what they earned. (booo, scary bad corporate billionaires)

To all who get lucky and get a free ebike:

To prevent needless lithium battery fire deaths,
Please:
1. Store the ebike outdoors when possible.
2. Do not charge unattended, ever! Think of it as cooking on the stove - don't walk away.
3. Unplug after reaching full charge. Do not keep it trickling.
4. Let the ebike battery cool down for an hour before charging.
5. When possible, store below 100% charge. Even 80% better.
6. Don't run the battery down to 0%, or even 10%.
7. Do NOT use or expect any regular fire extinguisher will put out a lithium ion battery fire!! It won't!! Run out asap then call 911.

Sadly, the bike organization doesn't warn ebike owners of this risk, which NYFD unfortunately has had to do after numerous residents became crispy critters.

A lithium bike fire CAN burn down a home fast, even from the garage.

1. Nonsense.
2. Nonsense.
3. Agreed.
4. Maybe
5. Agreed
6. Agreed.
7. Agreed.

Also, it depends on the ebike for a lot of these. Most ebikes have built in safeguards now. I'm assuming these ebikes are very safe. Also, it's perfectly fine to store ebikes and EV cars in a garage. Just make sure you have adequate clearance and you'll be fine.

Then I guess they'll have to move. Sadly not everyone gets to live where everyone else wants to. I'm guessing not everyone can live off that in Malibu, Beverly Hills, or Irvine either. There are plenty of places you can do quite well in CA for 120K.
