actually you need cotton underwear if you're sweating as cotton absorbs water better than polyester does. Plus, your skin is more prone to permeate microbes when you're sweaty and polyester has chemicals that can enter into your body through opened pores.

These [adidas.com] performance mesh boxer briefs are the best underwear I've found for sports/hikes/etc. by a mile. I've tried Nike, UnderArmour, Puma, Hanes, and other types from Adidas.

I truly don't understand why anyone would use cotton underwear in situations where they'll be sweating. It's just objectively worse than poly/elastane blends for weight/bulk, moisture wicking, breathability, and skin abrasion while wet.
