Wooden paddles are not worth buying at any price. You can get cheap fiberglass paddles for a couple of bucks more or look for a name brand starter set on sale.

Not only are wooden paddles not worth buying, they're not even worth it for free. The weight of them usually causes a lot of wrist pain or discomfort, which just makes everything not enjoyable. You'll probably end up disliking the sport simply because wooden paddles will sour your first experience

For just $4 more you can get this:

While it might be 40% more, they will be at least 200% more enjoyable to use.

You can find a dozen alternatives on Amazon between $20 and $40 for two to four paddle sets. Just make sure that they're NOT wood. Selkirk and Joola starter sets with two paddles look to be in the $55-$65 range.
