Those processors cant hardware decode av1 while intels in the ugreen nas can. As av1 is viewed as the future of encoding/decoding you're probably better off with a two bay intel than that beast. Now when they upgrade their processors you would be good. It's the same problem synology has right now. For whatever reason they have refused to upgrade their processors to support av1 decoding. It's been available since 12th gen intels. So idk what's going on with manufacturers but its the main differentiator in picking a NAS for me.

I am not advocating UNAS but it is an option. As for me, I built my own NAS with UnRaid, I am covered.

Personally I'd go for media players that play the formats -- or not collect file types I can't play -- than build my network around degrading my files on the fly

So you want your media players to degrade your files on the fly? Weird flex but all right. Thanks for sharing.
It's much more efficient to have one device transcoding than five or six scattered across a house. Plus your way would be inefficient for remote access as well as built in media access direct from tvs.

The unas looks great if you dont care about transcoding av1. I dont like the form factor but better value than what every other nas company is pushing.
Curious what you built. If you dont mind sharing some details.
