I'm not going to lie, the only things I know of SA comes from my encounter with 2 Caucasian SA men at a hotel breakfast in Singapore a few years back asking me about the "Mexican problem" (their words) in America, Oscar Pistorius stories, Elon Musk, and a 2015 movie 'Chappie'. Oh and someone said they went on a yoga retreat and had cases and cases of wine brought back.

What's cool to do there if you don't have family to visit?

I have been to Cairo on a short visit so technically it checks my desire to visit every continent, including Africa. However, I would love to go somewhere in Africa that is somewhat safe and natural, even a safari if it seems sustainable and beneficial to the local economy. I remember Kenya being on my bucket list, but I recall SA is more developed.

In Johannesburg I'm not sure, but we took a cheap flight from there to Cape Town and loved it. Great steaks for cheap. Went shark diving in gansbaai, table mountain was gorgeous, went on a safari experience. Just stay out of the downtown areas and see the countryside. It's gorgeous, truly.

South Africa is huge, and it is gorgeous.

I would go back to visit if this was from Los Angeles.
