Do you think this is okay for a 10-year-old? It says ages 8+, but it looks interesting.

I doubt my 10 year can handle it but I plan to build it with her and try and explain things as I go

Built it with my son last year or so - at least in our kit, the tolerances for the plastic pieces were off, with the result of too much friction for the engine to turn over once assembled. Which is a pity, because I really liked the concept, and helping him visualize how the energy is translated to the crankshaft.

It's possible we had a bad item, though.

I did in store pick up and didn't notice until I was home that Macy's sold me a return with the crank shaft already assembled. Jerks.

Yeah super unprofessional. Also was lucky enough to grab the Galaxy watch 5 pro for $30 today. Although the watch is in good shape it was REALLY filthy. Like zero effort to remove any gunk filthy. I just get annoyed that these companies like to treat their customers as if we are all idiots.

I just assembled this with my son. He is 12 and I don't know if he could have done it by himself. The screws need a lot of pressure to keep from stripping them. I had to drive a lot of the screws in. He does a TON of Legos by himself, but the instructions are not the most intuitive. We definitely had to back a few steps back to swap a part around.

Ours does work fine after we assembled it. The picture looks a tiny bit different, so maybe they updated the design. (there were a few parts in our instructions that didn't match what we got, so I know they are updating this thing fairly regular). Ours, the battery doesn't have a on/off switch, so you have to unplug the headphone style jack to turn it off. The lights for the "spark plugs" don't really attach to the motor, so they are regularly popping out. It's noisy when it runs, but it's plastic on plastic so not too surprised.

Awwh so it is definitely a two person (adult help) activity.

I would say yes. The challenge for me is always to do as little as possible so that he learns as much as he can.
