Trader Joe's in SF Bay Area has this rum for $39.99. I saw it at my local Total wine for $105 a bottle.

Fremont TJ's has the label on the shelf and it says 130th anniversary 40% abv for $39, but the actual bottle on the shelf is the Añejo Oro which is their 4 year, gold rum, 40% abv and it's in a fairly standard bottle, so not the right stuff, which should be 45% abv.
For those who have found it, was it the gift box style packaging? What location? I may try to hit up another TJ's later if I have time.

The correct bottle comes in the purple gift box. They must have put the wrong bottle above that tag.
This is a lot like Costco Signatory or any Signatory Single Malt imho - hope it's good but pretty much isn't.
I've had a decent amount of aged rum, and I think Flor de Caña 12 and 18 drink way better than this. It's pretty hot at 45% abv and does not drink smoothly. It's aged in bourbon and I love bourbon but I don't love this. It's worth $40 but definitely nowhere near its retail price. If you have snobby friends who only care for the number of years aged on a bottle and fancy bottling, this is a great bottle for them. I do not consider this a SlickDeal. I've had private label bottlings of blended rums in the 8-12 year range that blow this out of the water in complexity. It's interesting for what it is but not super compelling imho.

My n=1 $0.02.
For our education, can you categorize some top tier rums and some great bang for your buck rums?
