Beef supply is under serious pressure. Lowest number of cattle in 60+ years. We are sleepwalking into a red meat crisis.

Depends on the quality you want I guess. My Heb and Kroger this week have "select" grade at around $4.47 to $4.77/lb which is the lowest grade. Choice is $13.99 here.

Most Albertson's/Safeway/Von's/Carr's have the roast for $4.99/lb, and Kroger/Fred Meyer for $5.47/lb. Seems like most all stores put 'em on sale before Christmas each year, check out other stores before paying more....

Publix has been pushing at the price ceiling since the pandemic. But I haven't emptied my chest freezer of last year's standing rib roast, so I'm going to pass.

Great price and a family tradition for christmas day!

And it's the first time in my life that everything seems to be in/entering crisis mode. Coincidences.... there are no coincidences.

I was hoping this was going to be back this year! I picked up 2 last year - I cooked one for Christmas dinner and one I broke down into steaks. While it's no Prime, both were very nice quality, and you can't beat the bang for the buck.

You get what you pay for. If you know anything about the beef industry this is the lowest of the low in terms of quality. Prob been frozen for a few years and from another country. These grocery stores thaw them out and sell as fresh. Keep lying to yourself if you think this stuff is any good, and good for you. Buy local
I don't know about that. I just got some prime rib from Win Dixie for the same price and it was a great ribeye. I cooked it on my Kamado and also brushed it with some smoked beef Tallow I made from leftover brisket fat. It tasted amazing and $6.99 is a good deal.

You can usually count on Publix for having them at this price around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
We always buy a couple during the holidays.

Another thing is that if for some reason you don't want a whole one, or maybe are just cooking for a couple of people they will cut it so you can get a smaller one.
