I've been running QNAP units at home for over 10 years now. Use them extensively for storage, virtual machines, docker, Plex, etc. I've never had any issues with firmware. Neither was I hacked even when my QNAP was publicly exposed to the Internet.
What's my point? Managing network devices is a skill. People who buy these units must understand what they're getting into and how to protect their data. Otherwise it is a ticking time bomb.
The bottom line is everyone's experience will be different.

So my question to you. Do you feel this is a Slickdeal? I am pretty familiar with synology pricing not as much with Qnap

Man, that is one horrible web site to try to navigate. I couldn't find the content between all the ads.

not sure what you are taking about? they have been addressing securities issues and adding new features at least every month. My first QNAP lasted for 7 years, and they were still updating it regularly.

Try a little reading comprehension, my point always was about the aeshetics and eas of use.

There is no reason in 2024, to have a website that much of a disorganized mess. It looks like something that hasn't been updated, since the early 2000s.

I haven't tracked QNAP prices for quite some time now, so I can't advise if this is a good deal or not, unfortunately.

I've had QNAP NASes for eight to 10 years also. If you're not looking for something with a ton of horsepower, this is a pretty good deal. The cap on the RAM is a bit unnerving, but if you're looking for something to handle basic file storage / backup with a limited number of users, this should do the trick.

It's fine if you want basic storage, but if you want to use anything more advanced, that ARM CPU is going to be a bottleneck. Transcoding with Plex would be painful, and VMs may not even work since it isn't X86. I'd look elsewhere and spend a little more for an X86 based system that you can install different OS's on if you don't like theirs.

This is the lowest it has ever been brand new, according to keepa. I am very tempted. Does anyone know a better 4 bays at $300 price range?
