They will come with a strong smell and oily. I washed them with dish soap in the bathtub to get rid of these issues. Good deal.

I have 20's 50's and 80's. All
are good to go but are defintely bigger than the typical rubber dumbbell. I don't mind at this price point and it doesn't affect my workouts in any way.

Make sure they get really dry if you do this, don't want water getting stuck inside and ruining them, I left them out in the sun in the summer, but guess a fan or heater vent would do the same

Some claim the ordor comes from manufacturers skipping the UV light step, to "cure" the rubber so it doesn't smell like that. So you might need the actual sun.. Or maybe uv lamps? That's be a great test to see if that claim is true.
