If you just want the tax package, do you have to activate the combo?
The price for the stand alone version is higher that the combo so I would get the combo and then ignore the other. But that being said, I am going to wait until the beginning of January. The last few years it's been a little cheaper then.
Yeah, there is that option...and the "free options" that people always post in these H&R Block threads.
There are basically three main groups of tax-paying SlickDealers:
H&R Block SD'er
Turbo Tax SD'ers
All other tax filing option SD'ers
As someone who has used H&R Block software exclusively for the past 10+ years...I'll probably forever stick to it. Same is to be said for the Turbo Tax crowd. We generally do not like the other product and stick to the same familiar software that we've been using for years.
I'll forever pay for downloadable software, where I can download the software to MY computer and file my taxes. I'll never take up one of those free options, where my tax data is filed online and stored on some computer server, somewhere else (yeah, I know, it's already stored somewhere, like the IRS, or as it passes through H&R Block on it's way to the IRS).
To reach more people, who may be more inclined to your recommendation, I strongly recommend that you start a thread and give that third group of SD'ers their own thread about all the various other options...it's definitely needed!

I guess Im the flip flopper? ~10 years or turbo, 1 year of tax slayer somewhere between the 10, 2 years of HR, (saw the price hikes) just switched back to turbo.
yea.... I dont think so. They doubled their price thinking they are turbotax
Not quite. TT Deluxe equivalent is always way more. Been using H&R since 2005. It's rarely ever below $17-$18 for the Deluxe + State option. So you really need to decide if the AV subscriptions make sense for a few more bucks.
