My federal tax is free to efile, but I have to pay to efile my state (PA)
Ahh, maybe that's what he is talking about.
No state income taxes in FL so no efile needed.

My ESET from last year's deal was about to expire; this is what I was waiting for.
Just let it expire, save your money and go with the built-in Window Defender.

You need to pay additional to e-file....

Boycott H&R Block!!
How do you complete your taxes? I'm all for sticking it to H&R Block and Intuit(who lobby the government to keep taxes complicated, and try to kill free file), but I haven't found a good alternative to H&R block.

I guess Im the flip flopper? ~10 years or turbo, 1 year of tax slayer somewhere between the 10, 2 years of HR, (saw the price hikes) just switched back to turbo.
So after using H&R Block for 2 years you switched back to Turbo Tax. What made you go back? Is the TT software better?

This is a misleading statement. You can e-file your Federal taxes at no cost. Your state taxes require an additional fee if you want to e-file. Otherwise you can just print it out and mail it in.

FreeTaxUSA or Cash App Taxes will work for most people. No income limits.
(FreeTaxUSA charges for state and Cash App has a few limitations in functionality)

Yup nothing wrong with just mailing and also for some states they provide free filing through their online websites. I've mailed it in the past but after learning about my state tax website Ive just put the info online and it's done in like 3 minutes

The last two years I bit the bullet and paid to eFile my state income tax return. I have used H&R Block (before that Kiplinger's, etc) for years and used the free eFile for Federal and then mailed the state. However, sending the state return registered receipt requested was about $10. Then, I had a friend who had his income tax return intercepted by a postal worker of all things, It was used to file a bogus return and re-direct the refund. Of course, my friend knew none of this had happened until later and what a mess it was to get fixed. I'll stick with paying the eFile charge for the state return instead of mailing after that.

Same for me. I just "print" the state return as a PDF and just type in the numbers on the free state e-file website. Takes about 5 minutes. Used to print and mail it, but it takes more time waiting in line at the post office to send it as certified. Plus it's cheaper to do online.

I wouldn't. H&R same exact thing maybe not a good UI but who cares. It's cheaper

Not quite. TT Deluxe equivalent is always way more. Been using H&R since 2005. It's rarely ever below $17-$18 for the Deluxe + State option. So you really need to decide if the AV subscriptions make sense for a few more bucks.
AV lic is for a device.
