Do not order from this company. I fell for it on the last deal and it has been an absolute nightmare.

The first bike arrived damaged and unusable. They refused to honor their return policy, insisting that I either repair it myself (they sent me a link to a YouTube video wtf) or bring it to a mechanic at my own risk. Suffice to say, I opened a credit card dispute and am still fighting to retain my credit.

The second bike hadn't been shipped when the issues with the first began, so I requested a cancellation, which they confirmed. Then they shipped it anyway. I refused the delivery. It arrived at their facility 2 weeks ago and I still haven't received a refund. Another dispute was opened and I'm having to deal with that now.

Edit: just checked and the first dispute was finally resolved in my favor just this morning. Now on to the second dispute…

Stay as far away from Mendham Bikes as you can. HORRIBLE company. I trust SD's and have never been burned....until the last Mendham deal. It's been a horrendous and miserable experience that has cost a dozen or so hours thus far.

I ordered one of the Able bikes in the last deal. About three weeks went by between the time of the order and when I realized I hadn't received the bike. Meanwhile, they spammed the heck out of my email account with other "promotions". I emailed the general customer service email address demanding they provide me an update. No response. About another week goes by and I get a "your order shipped" email notification. Great! Fantastic! Except that a few hours after receiving that email, I got a retraction saying they had made a mistake and my order hadn't shipped.

I emailed them to demand cancellation of the order based on the long wait and my spidey senses telling me something was off. I actually got a response within a few hours that acknowledged my request and told me the order would be cancelled. Guess what? The next day, Mendham shipped the bike. Geez. When I got the shipment notification, I started checking the tracking and noticed it took them more than a day to actually ship the bike (they just issued tracking by creating a shipping label). In the interim, I again emailed them about cancellation and warned them not to ship. No response. The bike arrived and box and interior parts were beat to hell. I put in a dispute with my credit card company, who immediately issued a confirmation of successful dispute, a sign they know what Mendham is up to. I tried several more times to demand they take the bike back. They finally responded on the third email and asked for a huge list of items. I took the bike to a charity that fixes up bikes and gives to kids in need. I'll just rely on my CC underwriter.

Please save yourself from the same headaches and from having to write an equally painful testimonial on SD by just skipping this "deal". It's not a deal and if you research online, you find the bikes are junk anyways.

It's mid-drive. They require substantially less power than hub drives. They also tend to be more expensive than hub drives.

Total ebike newbie here, hoping this group can help educate me. I was about to pull the trigger on this deal for my 13 yo son when I just did a quick search for ebikes on google and found several sub-$400 bikes. I'm assuming none of these are mid-drive motors but just wanted to hear how bad they were for the price vs. this deal. Here are a few that seem to be advertising faster speeds or longer range:
aliexpress: https://shorturl.at/S0pXE
amazon: https://shorturl.at/OU5Ha
Ideally, my son is looking for one of those bikes that look more like a beach motorcycle, kind of like this one:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe overly simplistic, but hub drives can typically go faster for the same price but mid drive puts out more torque since it can use the bike's gears, which helps more for uphills. A lot of hub drives struggle with even small inclines. You can watch some ebike uphill videos to see what different bikes are like

Practically all states have a 750 watt limit for ebikes, so all of those would most likely be illegal for your son to ride in public. Some states have tighter restrictions for kids under 16.

I'm in PA and got my box today. It was a little beat up but not too crazy. There was wording on one side of the box that said "this side up" and they had it kind of leaning against my garage door with the correct side kind of angled back. I didn't bother to open it as I don't know what I'm looking for as far as "bent forks" etc., and am taking it directly to a local bike shop where they'll finish the assembly, calibrate the brakes and gears, etc., and make sure it's all kosher for a cost of $90. Fingers crossed they don't find any major defects..

These shipped direct from Kent in NJ. I have 2x waiting for me to check over when I get home. I received zero updates or even a shipping notification from the seller. FedEx sent the email on a new shipment incoming. They shipped FedEx ground so sadly I'm at their handling mercy...

You should ask your kid what they want specifically. Just like how every kid wants an iPhone and not android the last thing you want to do is get something "embarrassing" and your new gift collects dust because he doesn't want to be caught dead on something that doesn't fit in.

The last thing they'd want is to get their kid something he injures/kills himself, or someone else, with.

The 2nd to last thing they'd want is something that gets confiscated when he's arrested for riding it.

Finally got mine. Kinda dinged up because of Fedex (they are the worst), but happy for the price. It was able to climb the monster 30% hill on my ranch with some pedaling.

Can those who received their orders for this bike confirm it's using hydraulic brakes?

yes I know the specs list the bike as having hydraulic brakes. the reason I ask for those who received their bike to confirm is to make sure what they received from Mendham is up to spec. there have already been reports of people ordering from Mendham from the past and the bike received was not matching the spec listed on their site.

That bike looks pretty good. It doesn't sound like you experienced any of the horror stories reported by others. I'm also waiting for my order hoping I don't run into any showstopping problems.

Can you confirm a couple things for me:
  • The pictures from Mendham's site have a front fender but your front wheel doesn't have it.
  • Are the brakes working well? Any issues with the Hydraulic brakes out of the box?
  • What's the size of the rotor? Usually it's either 160mm or 180mm
  • What rear derailleur did it come with? The site picture appears to be an Acera but yours look like it could be Tourney?(can't quite make out your picture)
  • Looks like a piece of plastic got chipped from your top headtube area. Any other damage or issues you've noticed?
TIA
