Use FreeTaxUSA, you only have to pay for state returns, federal is always free. It's super easy to use.

Classic Texas assuming the rest of the world is Texas
Close, but not quite. He wasn't assuming the rest of world is Texas. He was bragging that the rest of the world is not Texas.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

If you consider what data they are going to take after you accept to the terms on their app as free, then well yes "free". This short video is a great thing to watch so you have some idea what you might be getting in to: https://youtu.be/IEXT-TrKGNA?si=tpMl6zCQx5pbDbOO

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming
....
But you are missing the joke
,,,
These are states without any income tax, so there is no reason to file.

Wish the admins in here were better. I see the OP posted this deal 45 days ago and it was sloppy and terrible. Everyone thumbed it down and the post was dead because it left out critical information and people were making assumptions you couldn't upgrade for free or this couldn't handle complicated returns or you had to use the app. So I post it again and organize it really well with Q&A with questions from TurboTax. Immediately after posting, my post is getting thumbs up 10+ and growing. So what do the admins do? They take my post and consolidate it with the crummy post from 45 days ago with a bunch of thumb downs. So now the OP from 45 days ago now has a post that is all of a sudden netting to a popular post. However, now all my good information is crammed into page 2 and everyone can just see the crummy post so now it's going stagnant again. Do better admins!! Should have just deleted this junk post from Ald720.

For those complaining about using the app, remember you can also get the app on a tablet which is a bigger screen than your phone. That's what I plan to do.
Thank you, OP!

I would pay to have my taxes done before I gave $1 to Intuit.

They are the reason why there is no easy way to file directly with the .gov

I answered this question but thanks to the admins they crammed it into page 2 consolidating my post. You just have to start your return in the app, then can switch to desktop, then when done, switch back to app to submit return. It's all linked.

How about this - prepare tax on their web version and then load the same account on the app to file for free? Preparing tax on cellphone is really challenging.

Old deals can be replaced if they don't get replies in 5 days, but this one was still active. We do cringe a little merging someone's deal into another that has gotten negative votes, but I think most SDers value getting the deal ASAP and want the first poster to get credit. Most people read the replies so your post will not be lost (though we probably need a better way to highlight informative posts).
