Newer models will have a bit more power. However, your v8 has adapters available for it that allow you to use common 20v power tool batteries on it (such as those from DeWalt, Milwaukee, etc).

If you already own any power tool batteries and your v8 is otherwise in good working shape, the adapters will likely be worth looking into.

I have the V11 for our house and it's the best money we've spent. We use it all the time in hardwood floors and carpet and it picks up so much more dust than our shark corded vacuum.

I'm using a $30 3rd party battery I got from Amazon for my 5 year old v6. Been fine for more than a year.

Question is anyone knows. I have a Dyson v8 Animal and the battery is about dead. Thinking of just replacing the battery for $100 or so. Should I just get the v11? Is there a huge upgrade going from v8 animal to v11? All help appreciated.

My knowledge is limited to discussions here on SDs when Dyson deals come up.
From what I understand, the v7 was the last model that you could use power tool batteries and retain all functionality. Again, I might be partially, or completely, incorrect.
I'd just suggest doing some info gathering yourself before making a final decision.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Edit: replied to the wrong person.

I'm on my 3rd refurb on eBay from Dyson, V8, V10 and Outsize and they all came brand new with all the tools. I saved hundreds.

I've had the v11 for years and used it so much it's worn down. I might upgrade to the v15. Highly recommended the v11!!!

i bought a new v8 from target for $250 but wonder if i should get a v15 refurb for $400 since i wanted to use it on carpet as well as hardwood. do you think thats a good idea or is it better to keep a new v8?

I've tried the adapter to Ryobi for my v8. My small batteries only work on low. My bigger battery doesn't even register. Also, keep in mind the adapter makes the wall mount charging useless.
