Picking up 2 jugs of 5W-20 for my car. And yes... you can use truck and SUV oil in your passenger car as long as it is the same viscosity as what your car requires. Truck & SUV oil is basically the same, but has slightly different additives to reduce the breakdown of the oil in severe use, like towing.

If you do a quick search in Slickdeals, you will see that 10 quarts of Kirkland oil is $32 when they go on sale. They are currently not on sale.

It isn't going to damage anything. GDI is not special. Do you even know what GDI or GF means? Being an adult who says "literally" I'm guessing not
No need for insults. I know that GDI stands for Gonna Die Instantly if you don't use GF-6 when it's recommended.

Just picked up 2 here in Dade city Florida. Both are date code 1-10-2019. So these are past 5 years old. Considering it was $11.50 I'll still use it because I do through oil changes every 5 months or so but just something to be aware of.

If anyone is interested in an overly in-depth geeky discussion of oil shelf life and also signs of oil that has gone bad, there's a long YouTube vid on the topic …

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E...e=youtu.be

TLDW: A hazy color or signs of oil separation (discolored "sediment" at the bottom of an oil jug) or oil that doesn't dissipate foam after being stirred are signs that oil has gone bad. He actually cuts open old oil jugs (and even an old-school "can" of oil) and stirs them up to show examples.

And a second way-too-long video that delves even further into the effects of aging and oxidation on old motor oil and whether shaking it up can help once oil has separated …

Just watched some of it, I decided will probably try to return to the store tomorrow. I don't want to deal with potential issues and Mobil1 states 5 years shelf life, its like buying expired milk. Maybe its good, maybe not. But I purchased a new product so I should get something that the manufacturer deems as "good". This isn't a closeout store. Question is will they take it back being a clearance item!

The original comment was …

"at not as good of a price, single quarts are available for $3.55 each"

Re-arranging it might make it a little easier to understand …

single quarts are available for $3.55 each (at not as good of a price)

Yes, the wording on it was awkward. But in other words … you can also buy single quarts at $3.55 each (although it's not as good of a price). The reason that suggestion was probably thrown out there would mostly be for those who couldn't score the better deal on the big jugs. And several people have actually chimed in to mention that they were able to grab those (which isn't stellar, but still a pretty decent deal). It's great to have multiple options on YMMV deals like this where stock may vary and / or the primary deal gets snapped up very quickly in many areas.

Bought 14 single quart bottles. Most were 2024. Some 2023, some 2021,and 2 were from 2019. The numbers on 2024 bottles were barely legible.

Seems like a closeout store these days.
"The national auto supply chain plans to close more than 725 locations around the country as well as four distribution centers on the West Coast, Chief Executive Shane O'Kelly said in an earnings call last week. "

Also, for those interested in checking the date code, I believe the following message from the Oil Guy forum describes how …
Quote from OilGuyPost :
According to Mobil tech support, since 2009, the date code has the following syntax. abcYYMDDd where abc are three characters representing plant code, YY is two digit year, M is a letter indicating the month, and DD is the two digit date. The trailing d is a letter indicating production run. (Standard month codes are A = Jan, B= Feb, C= Mar, etc).

The code on Mobil 1 oil I recently purchased is 10220B03A. This stands for plant# 102, year 2020, month February, day 3rd of the month, and 1st production run on that day.
