1. There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.

2. When you receive the phone, call ATT to pay off the balance. You might need to wait for a day to perform the next steps.

3. You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device.

4. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.

"REFRESH MY CONNECTION" which is on your online account directly under your total balance/view bill.

5. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of s23 S22+ and submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.

6. If the IMEI1 (pSim) of the request comes back with an email saying device not registered etc, use the IMEI2 (eSIM) of S23 S22+ in step 5.

7.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.

8. ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE. (if you did cancel before unlock, it may unlock after 60 days post-activation but no data points yet)

--------------------------------
If interested in porting out the new line to cancel, here are some eSIM options which can do it fairly quickly. In all cases you also have one month of active service which you can use for port out to a 3rd carrier, ex: Metro or Total Wireless has port-in deals.

Option 1: Visible eSIM, $5 first month with referral code (can easily find one online). If using a family member's referral code, they get $20 service credit so net "profit" could be $15.

Option 2: US Mobile eSIM free trial, ports out within 5 minutes, no need to wait for physical SIM

Option 3: If your family has Tello, you can start a new Tello line with a referral and they get $10 Tello dollars. Your cost is about $10 for the minimum cost plan so it's net $0. eSIM activation is also available.

---------------------------------

After unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to stock Samsung firmware, you can follow these steps. Don't do this before unlock since AT&T firmware is required to unlock. Multiple reasons to do this: a) AT&T firmware doesn't allow you to get software updates unless an AT&T sim card is inserted into the phone. b) remove AT&T bloatware c) it's pretty straightforward to do

1. There are many models of the S series but in US two models are imp. S...U is carrier locked version and S...U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable, so you can flash the AT&T model with the U1 firmware.

2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.

3. Download the firmware from S911U1 S906U1 XAA version using frija https://github.com/SlackingVetera...a/releases (fast) or from https://samfrew.com/firmware/mode.../Desc/0/10 (slow). Extract as there will be multiple files. Direct link to firmware for S906U1 (S22+ November '24 security patch): https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-S90...U1UEU7EXK6

4. Make sure developer mode is turned on in the phone. Install https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver on your PC.

5. Put the s23 S22+ in download/recovery/odin mode by doing the following. Power down. While the phone is off, press Volume up and down together, plug in a USB-C cable from the phone to your computer, and a green screen shows up. On that screen, press Volume up to go into recovery mode.

6. Start odin on your PC and then select different files for different categories and then start. There are two CSC files. Choose HOME_CSC if you want to keep user data like installed apps and settings, choose CSC you want to wipe everything clean like a factory reset. Note that the AP file will cause the Odin application to hang for a while, don't panic.

7. Hit start and wait til it finishes. It should now be the US retail firmware.

== Will ATT send me a bill after the account is cancelled?

Firstly, keep the ATT buyers remorse policy handy when you talk to them. See https://www.att.com/wireless/return-policy/ click on "Consumer and Signature Customer Program Devices and Accessories" and here are the policy terms

"Service Cancellations within 14 Days. You may call us at 800-331-0500 to cancel wireless service. You are responsible for all applicable fees, prorated access charges, taxes, surcharges, or other charges through the termination date. AT&T will refund your activation fee, if any, if service is terminated within 3 days of activation. The charges for service used on the account before the service termination date may be applied against any down payment."

ATT will send you a bill with the full amount even after you cancel your account so you have to do couple of things to get rid of charges.

1. When you open the bill in myATT app/att website there will be something called "Don't recognize this fee" under the activation. You can click on it to get rid of a activation fee. This is an instant and automatic credit. Also this works even if you cancelled the account after 3 days.

2. Chat with CS to get rid of rest of the charges. Make sure to not fall for credit in the next bill/adjusted in the next bill, Be polite but persistent that you want charges to be credited now. Bring up the policy if you have to.

See https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 recent interactions with ATT CS.

-----------------

If you received an unactivated SIM, and cannot activate on AT&T's website, see the following posts. Do not do these if you got an activated SIM.

post 613, 655, 1024 - multiple people getting a new BYOD line with the locked phone and unlocked same day via website or myATT app
post 880 - you can also unlock using an existing (friend's, relative's) active postpaid AT&T account without opening your own line

Steps from OP's previous deal:

1. You can pay off the phone or your line as soon as you get it delivered in either CASH or by calling IVR at 611 "Pay off Device".
2. You will have to pay $99 only to pay it off. Tax will be charged upfront on 99 based on your state.
3. You can cancel the line after you pay off the device . No question will be asked.
4. You need to pay $35 upgrade free or if new line.
5. You can cancel new line with in 3 days and $35 will not be charged . only $5-10 bill depend on your usage. Worst case scenario , $35 charge if you cancel after 14 days and 14 days of monthly plan bill around $30.

Hehe... What's up Tux. What did you buy? OP is awesome with this phone deals and his posts have detailed instructions including the ATT unlock trick. I think I bought 2 phones from deals maybe a year ago. Last halloween I joked at OP, asked him if his costume was a "cellphone". 😊

Does it unlock after paying in full $99 ? Is there a required number of service months to unlock?

Walmart reduced galaxy s22 to $2.75 per month for 36 months on ATT . This is reduced price , no monthly credits. So you will be paying only $99 to pay off the device .

Once phone is paid off , you will be able to get it unlock after 60 days or you can use ATT hack to unlock earlier. You can find details online about how to do it.

Only black color is available

https://www.walmart.com/ip/AT-T-S...om=/search

ATT unlock is conflicting does it require 60 days active service or not?

when click device unlock eligibility requirements on the unlock page

https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/unlockstep1

Purchased on installment plan, paid off early: The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request.

Without monthly plan, you can't move to checkout screen. You can select $60 plan and move forward.

I saw this on their site earlier in the day and upgraded a couple lines. But both my orders were cancelled. Has this happened to anyone else?

So I can call them to cancel the line as soon as the phone is delivered, without activating the line?

Does anyone know if this will work on Cricket without going through the unlock process, since Cricket uses the AT&T network?
Regardless, thanks, OP!

Thanks OP. I feel like last time I got a cheap phone it was your thread as well, though prepaid. Just got one. You can't make this ship up. I was on here trying to figure out how to get a family member's number and iPhone out of ATT (with hurdles) sans full payment, and end up with a new ATT account for myself--at least for a minute--and a new phone. It's like an end of Mr. Deeds moment lol.
