Both wonderful games! DOS 2 is my all time favorite game, yes I like it more than Baulder's Gate 3.

Dos2 is great, but Dosee is amazing if you can get past the poor pacing (story heavy the first act then the action picks up after). Dosee is worth the 3.99. Do yourself a favor and get petpal and talk to the dog at the cemetery.

Cheaper to buy this bundle than buying DOS 2 individually AND it's not mentioned anywhere but the bundle actually gave me the Companion: Sir Lora the Squirrel DLC for free

(he just randomly appeared under the game page's DLC in my library when i installed DOS2)

I know these are Steamdeck verified, but do people have any opinions of these on the smaller screen?

This deal is so good I wouldn't be surprised if it's a soon-corrected price mistake.

Is playing 1 necessary before playing 2 in a meaningful way?

No, but it's great in its own right. If you play 2 first, you might not enjoy 1 as much. I'd play 1 first, enjoy that, then play 2 and appreciate all the improvements.

Got these last year on a deal, played 1 a ton, and plan to spend the cold winter in my basement playing 2. Best ever from this genre imho.

DOS2 is incredible. Very different from BG3 and just as good.

I have both and am finally close to the end of 2. I didn't play 1 and now I regret it because I don't think it would be as good as if I had started there.

currently slogging through DOS and it's just that... a slog.
voice acting, graphics and stuff are good, but combat sucks, no ability to resurrect without scrolls sucks.
every battle is against almost overwhelming odds, you will beat them but just barely.
God forbid one enemy throws a poison bomb or firebomb in the middle of your group (and they will) and you take damage sitting in it, you take damage every step running out of it. then you're running away to try and heal.
pretty poor design imo. Maybe it's made that way on purpose but other turn based games from the era were not nearly as bad.
I'm sure I'll get blasted for my views on it, but DOS is an exercise in frustration.

We actually liked the difficulty (and I'm not into the Dark Souls kind of thing), you can always make it rain or throw a water balloon or something to deal with poison/fire surfaces, or use some form of teleportation. It doesn't hold your hand, and every victory feels earned. But it sure did kick our ass until we started figuring out some strategies laugh out loud
