I've had nothing but success when I've purchased through Secondipity. Granted, you are taking a gamble whenever you're getting anything second hand "refurbished" items from eBay.
I've bought 3 Sony earbuds (XM4 + 2x XM5) + 2 headphones (XM4 + XM5) + 1 Marshall Emberton speaker and they've all been great.
Earbuds had a bit of wear but nothing some cleaning up and sanitizing couldn't fix. Charging was tricky but that's expected with all Sony earbuds cases, mostly due to QC from Sony. Still charges and holds power just fine. Sound quality is still top notch compared to Bose + JBL + Beats
Headphones were all essentially brand new. Minor scuffs and smudges but nothing showing any type of "wear" on the earcups+headband. No charging issues nor sound quality issues.
The Emberton showed it had been used and minor scratches on the back - holds charge just fine and use it nearly every day (had it for 2 years)

Take this as you will, but like I said, my experience has been positive thus far.

Listen I said the same thing a long time ago. I took the chance for the XM5s and they came brand new.

Secondpity may not be good for everything, but for XM5s they're good.

They are, but Sony (and pretty much all electronics companies) will never provide support for refurbished items. Not sure what compelled the other person to ask them, it's standard procedure. Luckily these are backed by Allstate, so you're supposed to go to them for any support. Have nothing but good things to say about Allstate, they gave me another pair when my previous ones had issues a year later, and then when it happened again, they gave me a full refund close to a year and a half. If it's a legit problem, then they'll take care of you.

The serial number was blacklisted for warranty. Essentially, they told me it was written off as scrap, so there is no warranty from Sony.

I think the keyword here is "chance" . The XM5's I got from them in April turned out to be crappy. See my post #23 in this thread.

No worries! I keep on the lookout for these refurb deals for this exact reason (allstate's excellent response to my warranty request in the past), I hope allstate insurance can help you out!

I purchased this a year ago for $200 from secondipity and they arrived in like new condition. No box though, but with brand new accessories and case. Still going strong with no issues.

Thanks. But I didn't purchase from a firm, only from an individual who mischievously swap the "open box' earbuds with his/her used items. The earbuds batteries drained quickly after only a few months. A lesson to learn. Shed a few more dollars to buy brand new items instead.

It seems kinda wild to pay $200 for refurbished, when new goes on sale for $230 pretty regularly.

ok, so in that case the comment isn't relevant. this is a different seller with a long term reputation and a third party warranty from a company.
