Ok, so a lot of questions above, and not many clear answers, so trying to help, here it goes:

- This is a single computer / multiple small devices Battery Backup, for about 5-10min runtime
- If you have an automatic generator, this is all you need is those 5min for the generator to kick in and keep things stable in the 30sec-2min cutover
- This will happily run an ISP modem/router for 30min+
- This is NOT enough for a desktop + Unifi setup (DM, PoE Switch with draw and APs), you want at least 1000Va if you want 5min, 1500Va if you want 15min+, very roughly. I recommend using a runtime calculator if you need specifics
- If your device beeps occasionally or the battery "doesn't last long, like a year", it's likely because either A) a bad battery, or B) frequent draws on the battery either through unstable utility power or overloading the draw of the device has worn the battery down faster than it should (don't plug vacuums/heaters/fans/etc into battery backups, folks)
- This is an EOL model but they will support all existing devices through their warranty, and APC is historically good at this - they are getting out of the low-end market though

Hope this helps people!

No, sump pumps use a large amount of power/amps especially at startup. Depending on the size of the pump you will probably need something that can do 1200-1800 watts. This can only do 360.

Also for people wondering APC does a real good job of telling you the run time of something on their ups. https://www.apc.com/us/en/product...s-2-surge/ [apc.com] Scroll to the bottom of the page and it will give you an estimate based upon the wattage.

Finally one thing to note about run times. For the longest run time you want the smallest inverter with the biggest battery. Typically the larger units have bigger batteries which is why they last longer. Just don't go out and buy a 1500w unit to power a 5w modem. The conversion inefficiency of the larger inverter will be vastly larger than the draw of the modem.

For example
https://www.apc.com/us/en/product...rk-backup/ [apc.com]

This unit backed up my parents modem and telephone and has a battery 1/2 the size of the apc unit above but gets around the same run time of 1.5 to 2 hours.
Very informative! Thanks for the reply!

Mine is 5 years old; it powers the fiber optic input router with WiFi for 30 minutes. The internal battery is non-standard size. I wish they stay with most stocked size 7(8) aH variety.

Better buy it fast then. Every company now is making the new models worse, lower quality, lower specs etc.

Thank you. I like to buy the bigger UPS's that take a generic 12V 9Ah for about $25.

Pretty sure I have this exact model and when it's connected to my NAS, which presumably uses more electricity than a router, says it has like 40 mins of battery time.
Yes. Absolutely. I run my router, fiber jack box, and WAP's off of one just like this and it lasts for a long long time

Is there any reason why you couldn't replace the battery with an equivalently-speced LiFePO2 battery like this one?:

In for one. I have some light server infrastructure (a router, 5g home internet gateway, and a couple n95 mini pcs) that need a battery backup. About ~100-120W of power usage. This should be enough for my usage.

Is this sufficient to keep the internet router on long enough for a backup generator to kick on?
I have a similar model. It lasted about 3 hours with ATT fiber gateway and a tp-link wifi router in my last power outage.

I would pass on this. I bought one from B&H last month and it came with a quality assurance receipt taped to the side of the unit, suggesting it was refurbished, despite no mention of this being a refurb item in the description. The receipt was dated sometime in summer of 2023, which means the battery was at least 1.5 years old if not older when I received it. See the 1- and 2-star reviews on B&H where other customers talk about similar experiences.I would pass on this go for the non-discontinued BE600M1, which as far as I can tell is almost identical. I'm pretty sure the replacement batteries will be the same once the time comes.
It's normal for APC ups's to come with that quality assurance receipt when new, that doesn't mean it's a refurb.

i have this one as well as the greater capacity BE850M2. Here are the pros and cons. Pro: Small, simple, one USB output, easy to turn warning sound off by pressing the power button, good price. Cons: Lower capacity, mine after a year had a fault with the USB output. I prefer the BE850M2, since it uses a more standard, higher capacity 12V 9Ah battery. However this is a solid price for a small UPS unit for low power devices. I use the BE850M2 for cable modems, switches, routers, wifi access points around the house. I also use it for lights when there is a power outage. Should last a few hours.

I have been using this model for years to keep the modem and main router (tp-link x60) going during power outages and it lasts at least 1-2hrs for just those two devices. Most of the time our power outages are short enough so this has been working great for us. However, the battery wore out after roughly 4-5 yrs, so I'm on the second unit now.

Are you sure this is the correct battery? I have BackUPS 650 BN650M1 and that battery is only 2.01" wide. I think this is the same one. Searching for a replacement for this on Amazon leads me to think that it uses the 2.01" wide ones too.

Agree. I also have a BackUPS 900 which takes a more standard sized 2.56" wide, 12V 9Ah battery which are much easier to find.

Tip: Take the original battery out and tear off the APC label to see what it actually is.
