Even if it was water resistant, I still wouldn't want it to be exposed to other things mixed in that water.

Yes, but they are not chlorine nor saltwater resistant. Chlorine will break down the glue holding your phone together, and manufacturers do not recommend saltwater. Read the fine print bud.
