Great for some dogs and some owners. Terrible for some dogs, some owners, and collar/harness types.
Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be true for the majority of retractable leash owners

I bought the Medium 26ft last time. Very well built and high quality.

10 feet is really short for a retractable. I have regular leashes this long.

Good deal I guess, but 10 feet isn't worth it for a retractable

Retractable dog leashes are not a good idea. Need to have close control of your dog on walks at all times.

Speak for yourself, some of us actually put the time and effort into training our pets properly.

Strongly agreed with you there. Depends on where you are as well. When I lived in Europe, as a whole, it was quite the opposite but also area dependent in the U.S too.

Can you please elaborate on the difference of US and European dog ownership ?

European pets mind their owners as well as their owners mind their government masters.

These really are a generally bad idea in most cases -- and I say this as someone who used one starting out. Please just don't buy retractable leashes. Most people shouldn't, anyway. Any reputable dog trainer or veterinarian will tell most people not to use them. I'm not judging the people who do - I did! I just didn't know any better at the time, and I knew my dog had specific needs (she was afraid to go potty when too close to me when I first adopted her, because she'd likely been abused - I found longer leashes helped).

#5 actually happened to me, since it's made of smooth plastic and I was wearing gloves in the frigid cold of winter... and just like the paragraph suggests, it hit the ground, scared my dog, then dragging behind her she thought she was being chased - crossed a busy street and nearly died. I'm lucky as hell she's OK.
See also: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dogtrain...s_so_much/ - even the ONE person who says anything positive about them still says they're generally not a good idea.

So you're saying, it was the best of dog walks, it was the worst of dog walks....
