Where I'm going... for 2022, I bought directly from H&R Block and per the T&C of the sale, they removed my ability to download 2022's software and were happy to charge me (effectively) full price for the download of previous year's tax software.

So, +1 to Newegg for maintaining our ability to download. Lesson learned and almost a financial lesson learned to always backup tax software.

It was a nightmare last year when we had to rush to post office to send federal and state and still credit card had 30+ pending state filing charges. After all these got a sorry and promo code from HRB. Not going to be there again. Check if your state allow the new state efile from irs website and take that option.

it should have prompted you to save backups of your filings somewhere (My Documents > HR Block?), file types of .t24, .t23, etc. these can be imported without having the prior years installed.

I don't think that's correct about charging for e-filing. I e-filed with H&R last year and there was no charge to do so.

The E-file is free for USA, but $20 for state last I checked. I just mail state.

For rental property, you need Schedule E. In the past, schedule E was included in the Deluxe version. It didn't offer a lot of guidance, but had prompts for all of the appropriate entries. The Premium version offered more guidance and questions.

HOWEVER, if I look at the list of forms for Deluxe in 2024, it does not include Schedule E! The H&R web page also suggests Premium for rentals. I hate it when a company removes things without making that really clear. I am not sure if Deluxe will be enough for rentals this year.

Will never buy anything from Newegg again. I was a loyal customer until a fraudulent charge from Newegg on a purchase I did not make. Contacted Newegg and they were totally unhelpful and uninterested.
