during the long layover at IST, check the prices of food and everything else before making purchase.... they can get very expensive. (even fast food) Smilie

My wife wanted to try a döner and it was ~$50 for two small ones with no drinks. I recommend getting a credit card that includes priority pass, the lounge is great and it has great food

Dubrovnik is overcrowded and pretty much a theme park for tourists now. No locals or any semblance of coratian culture left. Istanbul on other hand, 19 hours is not enough...

I've only connected at IST a few times... the first two times I felt like I was getting ripped off. Just fast food. I got what would have been $10 or $15 at most at US airports... but they ended up being almost $45.(after converting back to US Dollars on my credit card)

then I finally wised up and stopped buying anything at IST airport. my friend who spent a couple of years in Turkey told me that was how they made money off tourists and connecting passengers. also be cautions about taxis... they are even worse than illegal taxis at JFK. Smilie

having said that... during a very long connection, I left the airport and went into the city for several hours. had a great time feeding DOZENS of cats simultaneous. basically I got mobbed by those lovey cats in the park, but I was very happy about it! Smilie The cats just kept coming... there must have been well over 100 cats, but by the time I ran out of the whole bag of cat food, they lost interest in me and walked away. Frown

Sounds like the gaggle of Gypsy children pick pockets in Rome. Once you're out of stuff, they lose interest 😀

with all due respect to pickpockets elsewhere... I think Paris wins by the sheer number of pickpockets.

as recently as 2023, I encountered 3 during the first day in Paris... fortunately, I have been going to Paris since 1989, so I usually protect myself by not carrying any valuable or cash on my person. One "amateur" pickpocket lady tried to take my decoy wallet(containing only a few euros and my navigo card.... I almost fell when she tried to get away because the wallet was chained to my belt. (thanks, Home Depot!) Smilie My actual wallet was on the inside of my jeans. I stared at her and she released the wallet and ran off.

been to AC too many times, but never went to the Boardwalk.... (stayed indoors and gambled... I'm embarrassed to say) Smilie

however, there was a park near where I grew up. my parents said there were a LOT of pigeons, thanks to all the tourists who fed the pigeons. apparently I was scared of pigeons when I was a kid because a bunch of them landed on my shoulders.

back to Croatia.... I forgot to mention this... Croatia is a beautiful country. many of my friends have told me so, but I never got a chance to visit yet. Smilie

"making 1 stop for 4-19 hours in Istanbul Turkey" Anyone familiar with booking.com to find days when the layover in Istanbul is closer to 4 hours than the 19 hours? I'm flexible with travel dates and could adjust dates for less layover time. TIA
Never mind, found a 4 hour layover.

IST has the largest and one of the best lounge rooms all over the world.
