Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Not sure why the downvote. The $400 premium to go from 512GB to 1TB when even cheap Windows PCs often have 1TB is ridiculous. Soldered or not, the chips don't cost anywhere near that. At the very least they should do a better job of hiding their Apple tax in a more distributed way. It's like those AirBnB's that list with $150/night and a $500 landlord fee.

You could also try for the Best Buy price match from Costco with this M3 Pro deal:

https://slickdeals.net/f/18006162-costco-members-apple-macbook-pro-14-2-3k-m3-pro-18gb-ram-512gb-ssd...

I wore the BB chat folks down until they finally just did a 1-time exception for me. Returned my M4 Pro I got at $1,699 for that. I know I lucked out and some haven't been able to get it, but it's worth a shot if you can get a willing BB rep to PM for you.

I agree with you, but when it comes to Apple, you're paying for the "Apple experience"—especially the macOS compared to Windows.
While I'd love to get a PC with better specs (OLED screen, more RAM, more storage, etc.) for the price of a MacBook, I find macOS to be a much smoother experience, especially for laptops. And let's not forget—the trackpad on Macs is unbeatable.

Yes. The M3 also supports two external monitors natively, while the M1 and M2 do not, without buying a dock that's going to run over $100. That alone justifies it IMO.
With the lid closed, yes.
The M3 does not support three monitors in the sense of using your laptop screen as the main display along with two external screens.
The M4 in the MacBook Pro, however, does support two external monitors in addition to the laptop screen. I can only hope the M4 MacBook Airs will offer the same, given that the M4 in the Pro is the base CPU for that generation.

In case anyone is on the fence between these and a MBP:

On my MBP M2(32GB), mine has lid open and runs 2 x 24" (USB-C) and a Samsung S90 65" (HDMI)

It is an amazing system, but if you don't need all this, the Midnight 15" is Yes, Please.

Yep, I'm in the same boat - I thoroughly enjoy the simplicity of the MacOS workflow. Windows has 423 ways to do everything, whereas MacOS has a pretty specific flow. I have both - Windows for gaming mostly and Mac for everything else. I keep worrying that eventually MS is going to sub-only Windows, and at that point I will be moving to Mac and Linux and ditching Windows altogether.

It's good to see that 16GB model MacBook prices are retreating. Even though there have been ardent fanboys who claimed 8 is enough, most of us expected more for our money.

It seems Macs are deliberately making it hard to install Chrome or Firefox on new Macs. I had to install DuckDuckGo, all others kept crashing expect Safari ofcourse.

Not true. It was an issue where Monterey users had the firewall turned on, then upgraded to Sonoma.

Mac mini and a MBA, I don't have an issue using chrome.
