For anyone who is looking for a good set of budget reference headphones, these are legends for the price. I have had a pair of these for years and they are still going strong. I used to use these for studio monitoring back when I produced/recorded music, and these have a great neutral sound signature. So if you're in the market for hearing music without any coloring or alterations these compete with headphones more than 3x this price.

I've had these for 7 years now and these are exceptional value. They sound good and are cheap but the thing that makes these really exceptional and what prevents me from getting new headphones is these are insanely comfortable and breathable. I always hate how every single reviewer always says "These headphones are pretty comfortable to wear" for every single pair of headphones. It's complete nonsense. I had the AT m40x's and the sennheiser 558s which were both very good headphones in terms of sound quality and I wager they felt fine to most people. When I had them the M40xs would get hot and clamped a bit hard but it wasn't like unbearable for a few hours but I would always take them off if I didn't need them on. With the 558s they were much better and more breathable (They were openback so it's kind of an unfair advantage) and I considered them the most comfortable headphones I had used but the earpads were a little scratchy overall not bad but I still took them off If I ever didn't need them on.

The Phillips SHP9500s though Oh my god they are comfy they obliterate everything else. They are soft lightweight so breathable I don't think you could possibly do any better with headphone comfort, you would need IEMS or something. I regularly just sit at my desk and FORGET I'm wearing them. That would never happen with any other headphones I tried not even close. I'm sure alot of people could tell you better about the audio quality but for a gamer headset or a budget audiophile headset (open Back) with soundstage these are really good and for me comfort matters way more than reviewers will spend time on. If you are looking for something that sounds good and is comfortable this is it.
Sometimes I get the itch to look at new headphones it stops me from buying other headphones because I'm worried they will feel bad so that really says something.

Now for negatives it does leak sound alot but most open backs do this. Also for me this is actually advantage. I am a cheap mofo so I don't have speakers for my computer so I just turn the volume Up and set it down and its loud enough to listen to a podcast or some video where audio quality doesn't matter.
And my clamping force after 7 years has definitely weakened to the point where if I lean too much they will start sliding off but for the price these are unbeatable IMO.

do these use plastic screws like on the X2 and X3 that break after a year or two?

The 9500s are generally regarded as better thus why the 9600s are often easier to find and less expensive.

You can find a custom EQ for these headphones quite easily as well. It's just that extra touch toward excellent sound.

Also, if you game with these you'll do well to pair with a microphone like the V-MODA BoomPro. Mine have been a pair working for me since 2017

I remember the SHP9500 on Amazon used to be $50-60ish in 2022. I guess the inflation has made things more expensive.

My head too big so I was always in pain when listening to music with headphones on.
This is the most comfortable headphones I've ever had, and still the clamping force is good enough to stay on my head when I walk around.

Too much hypes on these. The cups are too shallow to be comfortable and the band is too loose to be secure. The sound is not bad but no compare to HD600, not even as good as Koss Porta Pro.

The 9600 are the worst pair of headphones I ever bought. Thank zreviews for tricking me. The 9500 are pretty decent but I wouldn't pay $70 for them

Got this like five years ago and still great. I pair this with Fiio BTR13 Bluetooth dongle and it's awesome for portable. I like open ear than close one and since I don't blast my musics so loud that damage my ear I don't have an issue using open ear in public.

these are still great headphones. I have these and x2hr's, and while I mostly use the other ones these hold a special place in my heart. Both are just good.
