This thing punches down cat6 also. Until you can send electrical signals over fiber optic, cat standard will be still around. A single power and data cable for poe is way easier.

I don't understand how it's a dying technology? You don't punch into blocks anymore?

Most all new home builders currently don't punch blocks, meaning you would have to do it yourself or pay someone.

I feel like these are needed more than ever now, unless I am missing something here….

LOL Whatever makes you feel better, bud. Like I'm the one making these companies roll out these processes or changes. But I'm sure you can after you show up to a site and tell your contact that this is the amateur way.
And then they call me when sh*t doesn't work.

A dying technology. I'm finding I'm having to use mine less and less every year. I cant remember when was the last time I had to buy new blades.
I completely agree with him. I'm a full time IT manager and have rarely ever done this. Just FYI.
Maybe it's just my luck?

You may as well be railing against a gas can bargain since it's a dying technology and rarely needed anymore

I was talking to my coworkers about punch downs.. how we used to use this guy. At a new construction, we hired professional and he showed up with a 4 pair punch down and my jaw dropped.... this was in the 90s..

I was like omg, that exist????

Coming from a homeowner that recently-ish ran cat5e/6 to all rooms of the house...
What is different about punching cat3/5e vs cat6/6a?

If you're doing this every once in awhile, this tool is fine. If you're going to be working big jobs and punching down all day, upgrade and get something like the VDV427-822

There isn't that much different terminating the different categories of cables but you do have to be more careful with making sure the twists are maintained right up to the termination points and the jacket is striped right at the connector in the higher category cable.
