This pitcher holds 6 cups of water versus 10 cups on the large model.
The "Plus" filter here is the middle-quality-filter (Normal / Plus / Elite)

The large version with the Elite filter goes on sale pretty regularly - I bought one at the end of August 2024 for $16.79 on Amazon. They don't normally drop the price, they just add 40%, 50%, 60%, etc.. coupons.

Nice to have, nice for a fridge, but if you can hold out for a deal on the 10-cup one with Elite filter, I think it's the better buy. One issue with these are that the front opening (that you pour out of of) is open/exposed at all times, so if you plan to leave this out anywhere, the filtered water is always exposed instead of having a 'flap' or something similar to keep the water covered.

The pitcher is made of bad hard plastic. Dropped mine in floor and the bottomed cracked the first day of use. I think the plastic is used intentionally to maximize sales and profit.

I concur.
The pitcher plastic is bad quality as one drop and it breaks.

My last Brita pitcher leaked around the filter. Contacted customer service and even sent pictures that clearly showed water running down the outside of the filter. The response was that it was impossible that they could produce a pitcher that didn't meet spec, somehow I didn't put the filter in correctly.
Did a little research, turns out Brita filters aren't very effective anyway.

Can anyone recommend a filtering system that uses glass and not plastic? Perhaps a reasonably priced and efficient counter top or under-sink RO system? Keep in under $300 would be ideal.

I have Brita and Brita Extra (?) but then the water sits in plastic. I feel like an idiot.

Use the plastic part from the Brita system that holds the filter and use this to hold the water. If you want take the plastic part out after water flows through and rest it in a jar. Clean pitcher in dishwasher..

There are other shapes of pitchers on that web page which may more directly clean in the dishwasher - straight sides - with perhaps less capacity.

The Britta filter has one side that is keyed for some reason. There are 4 notches in the filter and one is slightly deeper. If you get it wrong it will work exactly as you described. I should know even after over 15 years of using Britta I accidentally put the filter in wrong 2 filters ago.

Folks are aware that these do not actually filter out many harmful chemicals?

We switched to Zero Water a year ago and have had good luck with them. We were previously using Brita or similar.

Don't get the Plus, the design of the Plus filter insert is a little bit different, so it doesn't fully seal and is leaking. The Normal one seals fine. I haven't tried the Elite yet.

Yeah, if it is made of glass, then you need to clean the floor LMAO

It does, but very limited and annoying. Basically you get what you paid for and don't expect magic. My tap water TDS is about 310 ppm. After going through the old filter, which takes 15 minutes to filter, it is 248, about 60 reduction. But for a brand new filter, which takes 2 minutes to filter, it reduces from 338 to 323, basically does nothing.

Not sure why you got down voted… They do crack very easily… Probably will not prevent me from buying, but is a fact I would like to know.
