I would have to guess, because it's the straw model. I own a TON of contigo, I mean probably bought 30+ over the years as I give them as gifts, lose them, etc. and their regular push button system was awesome. Originally plastic, then went to stainless as that became popular. They started Avex which was better, sold that brand/design to coleman, and coleman made them for a while but seemingly is killing it off. Personally, I HATE the straws and the secondary design that this is. I'd guess the insulation, stainless, build quality is top notch. But I clicked this thinking it was not the straw model and nearly bought it, but looking for your reason – I saw it was the straw model and would have returned it had I not been searching for it in the details.
Can't recommend. Bought two of these for kids and both complained about not being able to suck water through the straw. Got them something else.
For Contigo, I like the autoseal ones.

Glad you noticed that. Yeah I definitely don't want straw model. I don't like them either. I have problems with straws regardless of brand

The non-straw version is called "Cortland". I highly recommend it - I've never had problems with any leaking

FYI - about 3 months ago I was at Ollie's and they had a ton of Contigo bottles. I picked up a few Cortlands for $6 each. Obviously YMMV, but if you're near an Ollie's you might want to look there.

This is the Straw model. The Cortland (strawless) is the better model and usually goes on sale at Kohls on the Black Friday sales.

I have owned many Contego bottles over the years. I agree with everything said so far in this thread. The "West Loop" strawless design is awesome. The straw version is terrible.

Contigo fan here and all my water bottles are Contigo Autoseals. The AutoSpouts on the other hand are just too clumsy for my usage. Also I find many of these bottles for about $10 in physical stores like Ross, TJ Max etc..

Thank you. These are my favorite water bottles. They don't sell parts separately so probably a year after when the straws go bad, I let the company know and they send me a brand new cup and lid. I think that's awesome. I have done that for 4 of my cups. Keeps ice and water cold. Doesn't leak. Perfect size for kids that go to school. Fits in car cup holders.
