It's basically a larger Orient Mako II, which in itself is a great first automatic watch! Just make sure you have a large enough wrist, this one is a 44mm case diameter which is quite large.
If you are ok spending a bit more I would recommend the Orient Kamasu. Have one and I love it to bits.

Great watch. Basically took the ranks from Seiko IMO. Seiko dive watches started to drop in quality and go up in price so Orient is basically the new Seiko.

It's a decent deal on a good entry level automatic watch (meaning it will wind when you wear it and not need a battery). If I was just getting into watches, I'd probably start with something in the same price range but a little more flexible in terms of usability and colorway. This one is very casual, so maybe something a bit more formal that can still be dressed down: https://www.jomashop.com/orient-a...6l10b.html

I have gotten a orient mako 2 very similar to this one 2 years ago and i love it.
For this price think it's a great buy if you like it

Not a bad deal on an Orient automatic watch, which doesn't use batteries, is manually wound and also automatically winds from the movement of your wrist. The crown screws down, which adds to water resistance and makes it fine for swimming, but it's only a dive-style watch and isn't ISO certified for diving. Mineral crystal, so the display should be clear, but you'll probably end up seeing tons of tiny surface scratches after a few months on the wrist. This will learn towards looking good on larger wrists, since it's 44mm in diameter. 39-40mm would tend to look better on smaller wrists. You might want to spring ~$20 or so more for the version with a bracelet, since it'll be a lot easier to buy an aftermarket rubber strap if you want to swap it out. It's much much harder to find a factory bracelet that matches the watch after the fact, if you start out with the rubber strap and desire something fancier later. Although Orient bracelets are nothing to write home about, jangle quite a bit, and don't have on-the-fly adjustments.

Not directly related to the watch, but Jomashop isn't an authorized dealer, so this won't fall under Orient's factory warranty. You'll be limited to Jomashop's internal warranty (appears to be 1 year). Also, check out their other dial colors. They have a beautiful red, green, and black. I owned the red dial for a couple years and loved the look of it.

As far as brand rep is concerned, Orient > Steeldive. Steeldive is a Chinese brand that mainly produces "homage" (which is essentially a fancy word for knockoff) watches, although the movement and materials are far higher quality than replicas in most other product sectors - they're mostly just ripping off designs and cheaper because they use lower quality finishing, strap materials, etc. That said, Orient is essentially the lowest tier of the non-Chinese brands making autos - nothing wrong with that (or even Steeldive!) but there's a wide range in watches. So a step above Steeldive, but a small step, and you might not notice a difference day to day.

Some different perspective, unarguably Seiko SKX was the most beloved dive watch at this price range in the past, 42.5mm but more importantly the lug to lug was 46mm which made it very wearable and indestructible. Many enthusiasts loved to mod the SKX too. In 2019, Seiko discontinued the SKX and Orient introduced the Kanno and Mako III But the Kanno's size is 44mm whereas Mako III is 41.8mm with lug to lug of ~47mm. Eventually Seiko replaced the SKX with Seiko 5 SRPD with very similar design but with better movement.

So if you want to know what is popular, Seiko 5 SRPD and Mako III. If you have larger wrist, Kanno will work for you too.

I need my Ray serviced in CA. Does anyone have a good source because the 'authorized repairer' in L.A. was going to charge $200(I paid less than that for the watch).

Getting a watch serviced for under $200 is going to be pretty tough. You can buy the F6N/Epson movements for about $50 and then probably pay a watch place $100 to install it.
