I never understood the point of a battery. It's not a travel mug but one that's intended to be used in a fixed location. Ok, maybe you like to wander around while enjoying your coffee, so it makes sense for that. But many, perhaps most people, enjoy their coffee in a fixed location. For that, have some sort of unobtrusive connectors on the bottom and base, or even induction, to keep the mug warm. Sell additional bases if you do like to wander around, or for multiple people to use. Ember gets to make more money that way while customers don't have to worry about batteries failing eventually. Especially at over $100 for their deluxe models, this is just nuts.
I didn't thumbs down you for the record...

I do actually have the wireless base and it does work and is exactly how I use the mug 99% of the time. I'm one of those people that take over an hour to enjoy my cup of coffee so on paper the mug should be perfect for me. However like I described before, I can't even comfortably take it out to sit next to a fire or a longer car ride without the battery dying very quickly. I don't even have the temp set super high (135F). Without the lid, after 20 minutes or so, my coffee would start to get just as cold as if it were inside a regular mug which completely makes this thing a waste of money. You can just as easily use a $2 mug and $10-20 heating pad...

Just picked up. Charging it now. Last week, I bought the 14oz with handle from BB for $99. As I usually grab the mug anyway, I'll forego the handle and save $60. The lid is a nice addition. It doesn't come with the mug.

Why would you or anyone thumbs down me for that comment? I didn't realize that that was even in question.

Anyway, I think that the inherent battery-powered design is the problem, especially since heat can't exactly be healthy (or safe) for a LiOn battery. Simplify the mug, put a passive heating coil in its base that only works if on top of a base pad, that's plugged into the wall and powers the mug, via some sort of direct electrical or indirect inductive means, and sell additional bases so you can use the mug in various locations, including a car. The cost of additional bases would be partly offset by the cheaper cost of the mug. Hell, you could even make and sell a special base that had its own battery inside, that you'd charge and then detach and be able to take along with you to use anywhere.

What's the point of getting this instead of stainless steel vacuum mug?

Same point for getting anything that's overpriced and unnecessary, show off appeal. My $10 Contigo travel mug keeps my coffee hot for way longer than it takes me to drink it, and I'm sure that a comparably-designed "home" mug, meaning one that's wider and shorter and more like a ceramic mug, for home use, would be just as effective.

In fact that reminds me, I've been meaning to get one for home use, as the plug-in mug warmer I have isn't really that effective. Barely keeps the coffee in my mug hot when it's more than half full, then makes it too hot when it's less than half full. Plus unnecessary waste of electricity.

People td for no reason on here and never give a reason. Ignorant button pushers.

Ya everything you said makes complete sense. I do enjoy my mug but it truly is overpriced for what it is and not something for an environmentally conscious individual. Mine was a gift, I probably would not have purchased for myself.

Is it true you can only turn it on with the app? Hope they don't start making bidets.
No it'll work without the app. The app is terrible anyway, I used it once to increase the mugs temperature to its max of 145° F if you don't use the app it'll be 135° which is still fine.

Lots of people ask me the same thing.
It keeps your drink at your exact favorite temperature and will even warm up drinks if you pour something lukewarm or just hot water and tea.

Prior to getting this mug I'd get coffee too hot to drink and wait until it cools down enough which by then cools down too fast to enjoy.

Now I can relax, take my time and sip my coffee at my own pace.
So I personally love my mug.

Check out reddit. Makes this place seem like a lovefest. You'd get downrated for posting "I love bunnies" on a rabbit subreddit.

Someone once explained to me that people often do this so that their posts rank higher and are more visible. But there also seem to be lots of angry passive-aggressive loner types who just get off on it, or downrate anything they don't like or agree with.

I've had two if these POS. Without reading the thread, add me to the chorus of people who advise you to run far far away. I've now tried three brands of electric mugs. Nextmug is the best of the three but still not as good as you want it to be.

A good thermal mug like Zojirushi blows them all away at a fraction of the price.

It's a solid deal at this price. Seems like a lot of mixed opinions from folks on whether these are worth the cost. This is my fifth ember mug/cup. I gave one as a gift to a sister who loves it. I have two for my main home and two for my beach house. Obviously, I like them. I was hesitant originally but I'm totally on board after using these for a couple of years now. I get a battery life of about 2 hours. The app is junk, but you really don't need to be using it frequently. (I don't need to be constantly checking the temperature or changing the setting.) Just set it to your preferred temperature and leave it alone. But, aside for the junky app and the ridiculous list price, I love mine. It's not about showing off. It's about leisurely enjoying that morning coffee without having lukewarm coffee for the last half of the cup. I do think most people would prefer a handle, which this model does not have. But I'm OK with either and at this price I was glad to snag one.

I bought online and picked up at the store in Concord, NC. I also went inside and saw that they had bunches today at 10:30 AM. I would guess there were at least 50.

I bought 2 @$40....considering returning them. I feel like for the size I would finish the cup of liquid long before it would ever get cool even without heat. Am I crazy?

Ocean, NJ had a dozen+ of these this afternoon. I was interested but ultimately passed. Cup seemed too small and gimmicky. They were in the 2 first rows near the checkout towards the main aisle across from the candy.

Find me a mug without a handle please.
Search Amazon for "travel mug" and you'll find quite a few examples of ones that don't have handles.
