I do actually have the wireless base and it does work and is exactly how I use the mug 99% of the time. I'm one of those people that take over an hour to enjoy my cup of coffee so on paper the mug should be perfect for me. However like I described before, I can't even comfortably take it out to sit next to a fire or a longer car ride without the battery dying very quickly. I don't even have the temp set super high (135F). Without the lid, after 20 minutes or so, my coffee would start to get just as cold as if it were inside a regular mug which completely makes this thing a waste of money. You can just as easily use a $2 mug and $10-20 heating pad...

Anyway, I think that the inherent battery-powered design is the problem, especially since heat can't exactly be healthy (or safe) for a LiOn battery. Simplify the mug, put a passive heating coil in its base that only works if on top of a base pad, that's plugged into the wall and powers the mug, via some sort of direct electrical or indirect inductive means, and sell additional bases so you can use the mug in various locations, including a car. The cost of additional bases would be partly offset by the cheaper cost of the mug. Hell, you could even make and sell a special base that had its own battery inside, that you'd charge and then detach and be able to take along with you to use anywhere.
In fact that reminds me, I've been meaning to get one for home use, as the plug-in mug warmer I have isn't really that effective. Barely keeps the coffee in my mug hot when it's more than half full, then makes it too hot when it's less than half full. Plus unnecessary waste of electricity.

Ya everything you said makes complete sense. I do enjoy my mug but it truly is overpriced for what it is and not something for an environmentally conscious individual. Mine was a gift, I probably would not have purchased for myself.

It keeps your drink at your exact favorite temperature and will even warm up drinks if you pour something lukewarm or just hot water and tea.
Prior to getting this mug I'd get coffee too hot to drink and wait until it cools down enough which by then cools down too fast to enjoy.
Now I can relax, take my time and sip my coffee at my own pace.
So I personally love my mug.

Someone once explained to me that people often do this so that their posts rank higher and are more visible. But there also seem to be lots of angry passive-aggressive loner types who just get off on it, or downrate anything they don't like or agree with.
A good thermal mug like Zojirushi blows them all away at a fraction of the price.
I bought online and picked up at the store in Concord, NC. I also went inside and saw that they had bunches today at 10:30 AM. I would guess there were at least 50.
