I had 1-gigabit internet with Xfi Complete (for unlimited data) for a couple of years and was paying $115/month. I was tired of spending so much, so I called to decrease the plan or find any promotions. I got an upgrade to 2-gigabit with a 2-year contract for $88.

The 2-gigabit plan was not an option online.
Number I called: 1-800-934-6489
(I had to go through many menus to talk to a real person.)
Your mileage and availability may vary.

Note: I understand that I will not even be able to utilize 2-gigabit on most of my devices, but I plan to run some new CAT6 and get a 2.5Gb switch for my primary desktop.

I just set up an Xfinity modem and in the app it has an option to turn this on and off. With the option on I can see the Xfinity Mobile and Xfinitywifi networks...turned it off and they disappeared from my phone's WiFi list.

I did a quick speed test with a phone on my private Xfinity WiFi at the same time with a phone on my public Xfinity WiFi....and it did look like they shared my plan's bandwidth. But it was a quick test so I'm not sure for certain.

Speed test on the public WiFi did hit a number that was slightly higher than my plan+20% OP, i.e. hit a number greater than what I can get on Ethernet. I would test again with the phone up next to the modem but while it only took a few mins to turn public hotspots off...it can up to 24 hours to turn back on (apparently).

So it's still the case that to get unlimited data you must have their equipment be the gateway? Frown Makes me wonder what info they're gathering from your network for it to be worth it for them to not collect the $40 a month for unlimited data cap.

Seriously suspect this is one of those contract-term deals where the price skyrockets to 150% after 1-2 years. Haven't seen that mentioned yet.
I fully regret upgrading my speed with Xfinity. If you upgrade, you will NEVER be able to downgrade speed. They change it so that the downgrade speeds cost MORE than your current package. If I want to downgrade my speed from 1 gigabit to 400 Mbps, it will cost me the same or more than what I currently pay. They do this to prevent you from ever lowering how much money you are paying them. Cost only ever increase, never decrease.

My bill is over $100 more than what I used to pay 2 years ago.

US internet is so expensive, I'm paying about 23 USD for 10Gbps in Singapore.

They provide an all-in-one with a 2Gb port.

However I just put it in bridge mode and use my own stuff. Also, open up the modem case and disconnect the WiFi antennas, because there's no way to disable the WiFi even in bridge mode.
On an XB7 (dual band) I can disable 2.4, 5, and public hotspots through software. Without digging further, it just won't let me change WiFi mode, security mode and the different channel options.

It is the greedy companies. It probably only costs about $10 or less for the connection and the rest is profit-operation expenses. 5G here in Texas costs 129 but Frontier is so in debt they have to charge that to look good for the share holders. I am at 500/500 for the cheap price.

California alone is 578 times bigger than Singapore, where the latter is also highly urbanized and densily populated, which makes it cost-effective to build and upgrade fiber-optic networks.

Xfinity raised my bill from $60/month for 800, to $99 a month starting 1/1. Even after going to 300, it's still $65/month. However, I live in an area serviced by Astound, and they offer 1 Gig for $45/month. The choice is clear! Xfinity can go Ef themselves. As it is now, I have both, paying only $20/month for Astound 300. I have had zero problems for the past year with Astound. Fortunately, I can have both connected to MY router as it can handle 2 ISP's on it.

Please note that none of these deals have symmetric download and upload speeds. For example a 1.2 GB download comes with a measly 40 MB upload speed. This will prove to be a bottle neck in many cases as to what speeds you will experience.
Lmfao I wish I got 40 up on Xfinity, I'm still hanging out at a cool 24. Asymmetrical connections need to be advertised as the minimum of the two speeds - it's blatantly misleading people. You can literally get better upload using your phones hotspot in most situations.

We have a few other wireless options but they cost more than $35 I'm paying Comcast for 300D/100U/unlimited data/modem.
Btw, 1Gbps for residential is nut. 2Gbps is crazy.
Like the fact that you draw a distinction between "nuts" and "Crazy"

Those of you not doing business from home, what benefits are there to the high up speeds? Lots of cloud interaction or???

I suppose it's the shared gaming stuff.

The higher the throughput the more this daily message will matter:

"Hi, it's Xfinity Assistant.
We're aware that you may be experiencing a service interruption…"

They have prime access to all IP addresses ever provisioned. I don't use their gateway just because I want to minimize any hardware failures as it can be a pain to troubleshoot such....but if I needed unlimited internet for my household and couldn't afford the extra $30 I'd get the gateway, strip it down as much as I could, and just do what others are doing with it being a bridge.

You can go into settings to turn of the Hotspot that allows other xfinity customers to connect.

Thanks, OP.

I didn't get the 2GB plan, but I had to renew last Summer for the 800 plan at $90/mo (after $10 discount for autopay). That locked me in for 12-mo.**

I got the 1GB bc the price was $65/mo (after $10 autopay) and good for 24 months. Saving me $25/mo. (Contract was 12-mo, but price is good for 24-mo).

**YMMV, but Xfinity has told me that they will let me switch plans without cancellation penalty if going to higher speeds (maybe even lower speeds) just as long as you don't cancel (move, switch to FIOS, etc.).
