God I hate intel CPU nomenclature

One would think that the n97 would be weaker than n100, bigger number usually means better CPU right?

But no! The n97 is better than the n100...why not call it n105? N110?

Anyway, good deal lol
Just so people know, I bought this one over black Friday and yes it still had the malware. But I did a clean wipe. All is good
Oh, if it asks you to do a windows setup without attempting to connect to WiFi and it had a chrome browser preinstalled.

What I did was I created a windows 11 install drive via windows 11 media creation tool then offline, I booted the USB and deleted the entire drive and did a clean install.

N97 has only 4 cores and 4 threads. Is this little able to hanle remote work, 10+ tabs in Chrome and casual 4k movies? I have one 4K monitor, one WQHD monitor, one 2K monitor on my current dekstop using i7 4770 with 1060.
Depends what you do for remote work. It has similar single core perf, but lower multi core perf. (Tradeoff is that it takes 8x less power so cheaper to run)

Acemagic's windows image was compromised at the production line level. Just assume they all have malware and wipe the drive.

Shows as 1*16GB RAM, so it could be single channel (soldered) if that is a concern.

from Google AI search:

The Intel 12th Alder Lake-N97 is an entry-level mobile CPU for thin and light laptops from the Alder Lake-N series. It was announced in early 2023 and offers no performance cores and 4 of the 8 efficient cores (E-cores, Gracemont architecture). The chip does not support HyperThreading and clocks with up to 3.7 GHz.

Anybody knows the processor? I had the n150 from Amazon but this seems to be too good.
Basically 12w TDP for the N97 vs. 6w for the N100. N97 runs the iGPU faster:

Thats a pretty big deal. Malware installed by the OEM itself can live in the hardware/firmware itself and be undetected in many ways.
As tempting as this deal is, I wouldnt touch it

Been waiting to buy an opnsense device, this certain covers what I need! Thanks OP!
opnSense (& pfSense) do not work well with RealTek NICs. Unless you have a source saying otherwise, I would assume the product in the OP has RealTek NICs.

In many cases yes. But many have reported that a entire SSD wipe and clean install with new drivers from windows has been successful.

Do at your own risk!

I can appreciate Mr. Evan55 sense of security.

I am really only using this as a TV media player. No accounts, just VPN wifi.

According to CPU benchmark, this unit has very similar specs to the 5 year old laptop I am using with the Ryzen 5 2500 processor and 16 GB Ram. Works fine for normal office use for me now. I am not doing any game/video processing.
