This is a very simplified explanation, but should be good enough for government work, as the saying goes.

You have two basic types of VPNs. PPTP and "full" VPNs like Windscribe. PPTP VPNs tend to be faster because there's less going on and they don't offer as much privacy by way of encryption. "Full" VPNs offer much better encryption and thus privacy but that obviously requires more processing power which can result in slower speeds. That's on top of all the usual things that can cause performance issues with networks the size of the Internet.

You also have to accept that a VPN is going to generally slow things down a little. You use it because you don't want your ISP building an advertising profile of you from your browsing history and selling it to anyone willing to pay the asking price or things of that nature. That all said, Windscribe has been working to both increase their server footprint and upgrade some of the nodes to 10Gbps connections.

I've been using Windscribe since I snagged one of their lifetime deals several years ago. They don't even offer them anymore. For the most part, I am pretty happy with the performance of Windscribe. The past few days it's been kind of slow, but it's a blip over the span of several years. Probably just a lot of new customers and existing customers who got new computers, game consoles or something and they're temporarily saturating the network. They've also had issues with people reselling access to their accounts and, in at least one case, using like 7.5PB of data in a single month. They're starting to crack down on that, but it could also very well explain why you've been having poor access speeds.

If you take everything together, Windscribe probably ranks as one of the best VPN providers out there.

Info posted by someone else (SEKI19) in the previous deal

1) Login to your Windscribe account
2) Navigate to this page: https://windscribe.com/upgrade?cp...d=features
3) Click the green button for 'Have a promo code?' and then enter your code. It will add the years to your existing account.

Huge fan of Windscribe VPN. It really is one of (if not) the best VPN provider between reliability, speed, and privacy.

Techlore's comparison guide on VPNs really highlights the strengths of Windscribe (and the weakness of other providers).

I just spent a few hours finding a great VPN and considered this provider also. This is a solid deal. However, I paid a little more and went with Nord VPN. They have a huge advantage in the sheer number of servers, Panama based vs Canada and a great reputation.
Which plan did you get and was there any coupon to apply?

I've been using Windscribe since 2019. Reliable and easy to use. Some of their servers are blocked by video game servers (Las Vegas Casino) and some are blocked by P2P file sharing (Santa Clara Inside, Boston MIT) and also shadow banned on Twitch.tv chat (Phoenix Floatie).

I bought a bunch of different "lifetime" vpn deals throughout the year (Belka, fastestvpn, vpn unlimited, vpn secure, and windscribe). I can confirm that windscribe is the most stable and has update througuot the year. The other ones I had are semi-dying.
Somehow my lifetime subscription to vpn secure expired and customer support doesn't respond.

How does this handle port forwarding? SOCKs5? Any real users doing either with ease with their software?

Another happy Windscribe customer here. I have been using them the last few years, using about 1 to 2 TB each month and no major issues. Typical download speed is 10-40 MB/s depending on source.
I use it on Windows 11, and occasionally the app may have issues connecting, but it always fixes itself after restarting my computer. This only happens a couple times a year.
I bought the a few of the 3 year deals in the past and could always add to existing account.

The best speed with vpn imho, is adguard vpn. Basically is almost the same speed as with no vpn. The downside is, half the time your ip is exposed, I have this for 2y, along with nord.

Been using them since 2017. Some people though they would've folded but they are still in business.

I can confirm this can be claimed on an existing account. Mine just expired today, and after claiming my code it now says 2028!
To CLARIFY! Your account must now be EXPIRED first. In the past, you used to be able to add this to an existing account that was not expired.... now, there is no option to do that. You need to wait for your account to expire first....

Anyone need an upgrade code? Going to look for a refund...

I still have another 8 months on my SurfShark subscription. I am not pleased with SS and find it worse than Nord and Windscribe. SS is unusable about 50% of the time. I have to rotate protocols just to get a slow 10mbps connection to a local server.

NordVpn is one of the best and 5 eyes cannot trace your websites. Windscribe allows 5 eyes and is for amateurs. You get what you pay for and I highly recommend NordVpn over Windscribe. And Windscribe is located in Canada which has a reputation of spying on it's citizens!
Former Nord customer here. I used them for 6 years, and my only complaint was they were breached twice and failed to notify their customers.

I bought my Windscribe lifetime in 2017. Reddit users say it's good for 10 years, but you have to ask them to "renew". You have any info on how to do so?
