This is a very simplified explanation, but should be good enough for government work, as the saying goes.

You have two basic types of VPNs. PPTP and "full" VPNs like Windscribe. PPTP VPNs tend to be faster because there's less going on and they don't offer as much privacy by way of encryption. "Full" VPNs offer much better encryption and thus privacy but that obviously requires more processing power which can result in slower speeds. That's on top of all the usual things that can cause performance issues with networks the size of the Internet.

You also have to accept that a VPN is going to generally slow things down a little. You use it because you don't want your ISP building an advertising profile of you from your browsing history and selling it to anyone willing to pay the asking price or things of that nature. That all said, Windscribe has been working to both increase their server footprint and upgrade some of the nodes to 10Gbps connections.

I've been using Windscribe since I snagged one of their lifetime deals several years ago. They don't even offer them anymore. For the most part, I am pretty happy with the performance of Windscribe. The past few days it's been kind of slow, but it's a blip over the span of several years. Probably just a lot of new customers and existing customers who got new computers, game consoles or something and they're temporarily saturating the network. They've also had issues with people reselling access to their accounts and, in at least one case, using like 7.5PB of data in a single month. They're starting to crack down on that, but it could also very well explain why you've been having poor access speeds.

If you take everything together, Windscribe probably ranks as one of the best VPN providers out there.
Info posted by someone else (SEKI19) in the previous deal

1) Login to your Windscribe account
2) Navigate to this page: https://windscribe.com/upgrade?cp...d=features
3) Click the green button for 'Have a promo code?' and then enter your code. It will add the years to your existing account.

Huge fan of Windscribe VPN. It really is one of (if not) the best VPN provider between reliability, speed, and privacy.

Techlore's comparison guide on VPNs really highlights the strengths of Windscribe (and the weakness of other providers).

NordVpn is one of the best and 5 eyes cannot trace your websites. Windscribe allows 5 eyes and is for amateurs. You get what you pay for and I highly recommend NordVpn over Windscribe. And Windscribe is located in Canada which has a reputation of spying on it's citizens!
Who is 5 eyes?
I just want to be able to watch Netflix as if I am in another country. Is there a cheaper way to do this?

People looking for true anonymity/privacy are concerned with the five eyes. From wiki:

The Five Eyes (FVEY) is an Anglosphere intelligence alliance comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.[1] These countries are party to the multilateral UK-USA Agreement, a treaty for joint cooperation in signals intelligence.[2][3][4] Informally, "Five Eyes" can refer to the group of intelligence agencies of these countries.

Interesting stuff. I thought it was something else.
Any suggestion for international Netflix streaming?

I still don't understand why we'd want to use the provider that was breached in a way that would enable spying by third parties and also failed to disclose that breach for over a year.

Maybe Windscribe has issues too, but it honestly feels weird to basically make an argument that boils down to, "Don't trust the organization that's located in Canada and open sources their Android and other apps, because they're Canadian and subject to Canadian / Canadian ally spying. Instead, trust this Panamanian organization who doesn't release the source for most of their apps and has a history of failing to report breaches that put customer data at risk and potentially allow spying by literally anyone who happens to get a copy of the breached key."

Even if it was a limited number of servers, not telling customers is the absolute wrong way to handle a security incident.

Also, I find NordVPN's lack of source availability to be disappointing. Other providers are more transparent with respect to their apps. E.g., Windscribe releases code for a lot more of their apps compared to NordVPN. AFAIK, NordVPN has only released the source for their Linux app, whereas Windscribe's Android, Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS apps are all open source. Some other providers have also been a bit more on the ball about supporting additional platforms compared to NordVPN. IIRC, Windscribe added Windows on ARM support about a year ahead of NordVPN.

Anyway, I just don't get the hype. It seems to me like anyone truly paranoid / worried wouldn't pick either NordVPN or Windscribe, so I don't see the point in arguing between the two.
Windscribe did have one quasi-breach a few years back. I forget the specifics now and am too lazy to look them up, but I want to say Ukranian authorities seized one of their servers located in that country as part of some investigation into an Oligarch's criminal activities, and that potentially gave them access to the Windscribe network. As I recall, they immediately changed all the security codes once they found out what happened, then disclosed the event along with what they've done to fix it in the immediate term as well as prevent it from happening again. Basically the way you'd expect a responsible company to handle things. There are companies who spend more just on network security than several of us make in a year combined, and they still get hacked. It's going to happen, so all you can really expect is for companies to follow best practices, take all reasonable precautions, and then be up front about things when something happens.

Our sockpuppeting friend is just shilling for Nord. Whether it's paid or volunteer shilling is a call I leave up to the SD mods. For all I know Nord is a perfectly good VPN, but since I've got a lifetime sub for Windscribe there's little point in me spending more money to find out. Windscribe isn't perfect, no perfect service exists, but it probably ranks in the top 5 when you compare the services as a whole.

Edit: LOL! Our sockpuppeting Nord shill has taken to downvoting all my posts using both of their accounts. Way to prove you're not sockpuppeting buddy!

The main problem with this, is it's not that difficult for companies like Netflix to keep a list of VPN IP addresses and just block them. It's a game of whac-a-mole where a server may work fine for a time, then Netflix blocks it. Then the VPN server gets a new IP address and things work fine for a while until Netflix blocks it again. When you start seeing dozens/hundreds/thousands of connections to unique accounts all coming from a single IP address, it's pretty safe to say it's a VPN server. Netflix has contracts with a lot of different content providers and those contracts dictate what can be shown in what regions.

That all said, Windescribe claims to have some kind of Netflix specific spoofing type setup in all of its US servers. I'm in the US, so can't say how well it works, but you can always try the free tier before pulling the trigger on this deal and seeing how it works. You get 10GB/mo that way, which should be plenty to test a couple shows.

Thanks, I am trying to do opposite actually which is why I am hoping they won't care. I want to watch Netflix content from eastern europe, which is not available when watching from USA.

I'll try to free but usually free ones don't include international VPN servers in those countries.
I thought about asking my friend to install VPN so I can use their data but he told me he has quote and his up stream is too slow so it wouldn't work.

Got 5 years for this price in June 2023. I'm good until 2028 but will try and keep an eye out in June for a better deal.

If the free doesn't work, you're out what, a little time and effort? If free doesn't include any international servers, just find the cheapest 1-month plan you can, pretty sure Windscribe will do custom a la carte plans. If it doesn't work, you've at least minimized your losses.

Windscribe has worked for me in the past, but I haven't tried it since last year. They have dedicated servers for streaming content from other countries.

Mu current Windscribe account expiring Sept 2025, bought and redeem another 3 year. Now Sept 2028. Been using since 2018. Thanks😀
You redeemed this to an active account? How did you do that? What browser / device did you use? I can't see the "redeem voucher" on mine. Maybe it's because this would be my 2nd time doing this... or maybe it's because I have a "pro" account.

Conflicting information here. So you can or cannot add this to a pre-existing account?

Perhaps a "free" account.
but I have a pro account and can't do it.

I would go with Private Internet Access PIA if you're sailing the high seas. They don't keep logs, which is important if G Man comes knocking.

I have the lifetime sub and I have been really happy with the service. I mostly connect to the servers on the west coast. A few times when I used the locations in Asia and EU, it worked flawlessly.
I had the limited lifetimes account at 60gb per month, but they ran the promotion saying the "lifetime" was for Putin, so when he dies, so does the free deal, but if I converted to unlimited before then I could lock in $10 per year. Seemed like a good trade to me.
