Also, has anybody had any issues to carry forward prior year TT .tax file?
Some people will say go with the free filing provided by IRS and states. The problem is that most do not allow HSA or retirement contributions, so that eliminates a lot of people.
Also, last year, HRB had a major snafu with the forms for electric vehicle credits which were extremely delayed.

All tax prep services, all tax software and even accountants struggled with that and all blame goes rightly to an incompetent bureaucratic system. The Feds directly and assuredly caused the delay by not releasing the form until Feb. It was discussed in every forum of every tax prep company or service. After that it takes some time to code it into the software and I have no idea as to where you got your information that it was something only Black struggled with. It was complete Fed created mess and gets even uglier as you get down in the details.

The IRS is working on the Form 8936 at the moment, and we are hearing it will be out of development sometime in February
The last release date for these instructions for this Form 8936 directly form the IRS was dated Jan 2022 – one year ago
The new instructions will most likely have a Feb 2023 release date.
So, we cannot rely on any of the existing instructions as they are in meetings to let us now the final instructions.
On top of that they will change the 2022 Form name from Qualified Plug-In Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit to Clean Vehicle Credit
Good news is that there may be a new game in town and the days of IRS corruption and incompetence may be coming to an end.
If you want to talk about SNAFUs does anyone remember that time when the IRS sent about 160 million in child tax credits to two residential addresses in Atlanta. I saw the congressional hearing and I'll be damned if the commissioner said that that there was nothing in that situation that sent up any flags in their system or caused anybody to check on anything, it was just business as usual.

I don't think I've ever seen this deal paired with Nord VPN. Only garbage virus protection.

What disturbs me is that with that known and easily researched truth we still have people spreading misinformation and some are so crazy they use the myth you spread here as evidence that the IRS should take over and control the tax prep industry and even fill in our forms for us with numbers of their choosing.

With regard to the carryover year to year - I think it depends on your level of tax knowledge. If you don't have much, it's very easy to miss something, especially if you just import and then follow the guided interview. As an example, TT correctly filled out and carried over information on form 8606 for me for about 10 years before I even knew what that form was for.

Really think none should just be plugging in numbers without knowing what the overall tax situation is. Can get away with that if you are just getting a W2 but we may be doing ourselves a disservice. The hard work of taxes is not filing but is keeping records and knowing of and researching for strategies to save on taxes. Tax filing software is one of the easier and quicker parts of the process. I paid a tax guy at one time but after stating to do my own taxes I realized that he did not advise me of many things that could have saved me money.
