By the way, these simple rice cookers exploit an amazing little bit of science to cook rice damn near perfectly.

Magnet in the bottom closes the circuit to engage the heating element. Water heats up to boiling and starts to cook the rice. Water can't get hotter than 212⁰F so it starts to convert to steam as the rice also absorbs water. When all the water is absorbed and no more exists in liquid state, cooker is still adding energy so rice starts to rise in temperature. Magnet is made of a composite that loses its magnetic ability at temps above ~215⁰F so when rice starts to heat up, magnet drops off, breaking the "cooking" circuit and engaging the "keep warm" circuit.

Simple, foolproof, science. Doesn't need a microprocessor or programming. It just works.

Great price but just a FYI for those wondering, Aroma sells this cooker with either stainless steel pot or non-stick coating pot. This one is non stick.

Won't recommend non stick. It does peel off quickly, and lands in your body

It seems like a pretty good deal for a rice cooker and steamer. As a single guy, the idea of being able to cook rice and steam vegetables at the same time for just $10 is intriguing. Worth giving it a try!
