How do you even make 1 gallon of tea at one time? HOT water will bust a glass pitcher right??
It probably would if the glass pitcher was really cold, like frosted. That's why you don't use hot water to defrost your windshield. But the temperature difference between hot water and a room temperature glass pitcher isn't extreme enough. The same way every coffee maker has a glass pot, same thing. Which is actually how I brew a gallon of tea using these gallon sized bags. You just put a single gallon tea bag in the filter basket and brew a full pot. Then you just pour it into a gallon pitcher, add your sugar while it's hot if you want to make sweet tea, and fill the rest with cold water.

Can't tell if these are individually sealed. Tea will oxidize, so if not individually sealed, be prepared to drink lots!
not individually sealed, it is a big tea bag that can brew more than 1 GAL

Even the packaging itself is not vacuum sealed, it uses thin cellulite film

Some cultures serve their tea steaming hot in glasses. The trick is to stick a metal utensil, like a butter knife, into the glass to act as a heat sink and not break the glass.

My Kroger has a 48 count package for $5.49, so not a good deal for me.

THANK GOD FOR THIS!!!! I've been looking for these for weeks and they haven't been available ANYWHERE. Got 4. I've been buying these for like 20 years and there was never a problem getting these from Amazon ever since I moved out of the South where you could easily find them. The last year or so, they've been hard to get.

This is for the gallon size. The one from Kroger is for 4 cups so 1/4 the amount. Times your $5.49 x 4 and you have $22 for 48 vs $6.10.

To make a gallon of iced tea, I boil about half a gallon of water on the stove, then add the tea bag(s) and set it aside to cool for an hour or so. When it's no longer hot, I add the 1/2 gallon of tea to the pitcher and fill the remainder of the pitcher with cold water. I haven't used these big tea bags before, but I'm in for a couple boxes to try it. I usually use 6 regular Lipton teabags to make a gallon. If I'm using an herbal tea, which seems to be weaker in flavor, I use 10 regular bags. Hope that helps.

I didn't really find exactly how much loose tea is in a small bag of Lipton but it seems that a family size Lipton bag is 4 small bags and a gallon Lipton bag is 4 family size bags.

So, we're using 16 small bags for a gallon of iced tea, or 4 family size. We might like it a bit on the strong side but it seems comparable to what they serve in restaurants. Everyone is different.
